Not sure if'n it was the ole Daisy wrenchester style BB gun I got at around 5 years old , or that Marlin 1894  in .44 mag that kicked my scrawny shoulder when I was 8 , But I've enjoyed shooting since I was pretty young .  started with a semi auto .22 , over /under 20 ga , couple of 870s , several bolt actions later , I just grab one of those old faithfull Marlins off the wall when I head out into the woods for big game season here in NYS.

 A couple of old Winjesters ,'94s 38-55 from1906 and a .32 special from 1941 , a model 88 in .308 , and the youngest of the bunch a mirokuchester 1895 from 1984 in 30-06 kinda languish in the safe for the most part , but do get out and get some fresh air and powder burned through 'em once in a while

So the funny thing is I show up at a range , or someone stops by camp , and I hear something to the effect of " OH I see ya got a couple 30-30s " and the 30WCF stories commence

It's not that the thudy thudy ain't a great deer dropper , just I've never owned one or even ever shot one

Welcome to the board, glad to see you here.  I have to admit I've never had the opportunity to spend much time in your state.  Always thought I'd like to:  See a race at Watkins Glenn, experience skiing on the Olympic venues, and camp in the Adirondaks.  Some of those old Currier & Ives prints really make ya wish you were there.  The family did drive through to Vermont in 1956.  I remember seeing Niagara Falls & then going across your state to Brattleboro.

I've been known to shoulder a lever action every now & again.  Currently in the process of trying to make an honest gun out of a 1964 39A that had been abused as a child.  Might take a while, but I'll geterdone.

cb900 f , if you give up on that 39 A that is as old as I am , let me know.  , it's the same age as I am and the 39A is really the only gun on my "how can we rearange our bills to get this now" list.  I want to add a 4th spot in that rack pictured for one, but too many folks know how great they are and seem to base thier prices based on current OZ / Gold prices

The falls ,Yep , pretty cool , if you get back there , try the jet boat ride up the river .

Adirondacks   Don't confuse it with 'Real' mountains , but a six million square mile State park has a ton of room to get off the beaten path

 Welcome to the site here,I love .35's I just put an old one back together. 88's now there's a rifle mines a .308 as well,I picked it up to replace my stolen Finnwolf. IMHO the 2 best levers ever made.

Love the Adirondacks.  Spend a week or two every year backpacking around them in the 60-80s.  Liked the Moose River Rec Area...never got use to the black fly bites.  Pretty thick cover up there.  I hunted it with a 58 cal muzzleloader one year.  Really only needed one shot 'cause if you missed or hit either way it was in the brush.

Hope you stay active on BSB we need some eastern flavor on here.  LOL

I'm pretty new here myself, but still ofer a warm welcome to BSB. These guys are great.

I have owned a few levers in the past and loved them. Sadly I sold my 1894 two years ago to pay medical bills. Been kicking my self ever sence. That was a good old rifle/carbine. My old Savage99 300 sav is a great old gun, but never see's use any more. It's old enough to have the brass cart counter, and I would like to keep it in good shape to hand down to my grandson some day.

MM  that 99  300savage is to old and not a Montana cartridge.  It would fit nice in Pennsylvania and New York woods for short range deer!  Maybe it needs a vacation.

It might at that. Porply closer to you than me right now. It like many of my unused stuff is in Saint Louis at my dad's house. It's one of the ones I will inherite some day. But he already refurres to it as mine. I'm the only one who has shot it in the last 30 years. Served me well till I got the bug and bought my faithfull 788 308. I don't think anyone has shot it since 1979.

Sad maybe it should go to a new home where it will be used

Dad also has one in 250-3000. I think it might be for sale. He asked recently if I wanted it, and told him yeh but I would not use it as I already have a 22-250 that is a tack driver.

Know how those things work.  My kid  (34) has the pick of my gun room, always wants lever gun.  He has my (aka his) marlin 30-30.  He hunted monday with me and took the 30-30 over 25 other deer rifles.  Also got his mark on my (aka his) win 71 in 348 (only cartridge it was made in), also win 1892 in 25-20 with a tang sight, and a marlin 1894 in 44 mag.

Actually a father could only hope that his son/daughter or son/daughter I-L would exercise and enjoy his weapons a generation after he is gone.  Maybe even the grand kids, if I ever have any!

And they really are mine. I'm just not looking forword to collecting them. I told him years ago that all I care about in the will is the guns. He can give the house and cars and money to my step brothers and sisters for all I care. But the guns stay in our family for my daughter nad grand kids. He agreed and has already started giving them to me as he knows as well as I do that if he dies. I won't hear about it till my step mother has already gotten ride of every thing of value. So he has started sending them to me slowly so as not to raise suspision.

I can't imagine why he would stay married to someone like that, but he does. He is such a great guy, and he diserves so much better.

Life is complicated, tough to understand people, often even tough to understand ourselves.
