Hunted with CEC safaris--Cornie and Elaine Coetzee Came back to a modern House every night, slept in a real bed, and had internet and TV--useful but not always desireable! Mainly was there to hunt lion out of Etosha, but the antelope/PG had calved a few weeks early, and the lions had gone back into the Park. Similiarly, the leopards were having too much fun killing gemsbok, hartebeest, and kudu calves to take our baits. game taken: Gemsbok, Kudu, Hartebeest, wildebeest X 2, Giraffe (huge bull), mountain zebra X 2, warthog game seen, but not taken--leopard, eland, blesbok, black wildebeest, springbok, dik-dik, steinbok, baboon.

Kingpin, yes that was a young gemsbok that a good-sized leopard had put up in the tree. Most of the leopard kills we found were eaten on the ground, because of scarcity of hyenas and lack of lions, but there were hyena tracks under this tree, so that is why the leopard put it there. The odd looking animal is an aardvark, killed by a leopard, but hung in a tree by us hunters to keep the leopard from dragging it away. ------------- Steve |

Edward, the tracker, was amazing. He was better than the dog! He was Herero/Himba, and a Christian. A good man to have on the hunt. The little dog, Foxie, was only 9 months old at the time. He would trail as fast as he could and be completely worn out when after a wounded critter, but he would grab on to its rear end if he got to it before I could finish it off. Cornie and Elaine lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas from 1999 to 2004 so that their daughters could go to high-school in the USA ------------- Steve |
