I had thought for some time to upgrade the optics on my 6mm Remington.   The gun had really earned a better scope than the Weaver V-9 that was on it.  Not that the Weaver couldn't perform, but only under ideal conditions.  Off the bench, in full daylight, at 100 yards, the gun has shot a number of groups under .8, some well under.  But, let less than ideal conditions prevail and the Weaver would let it's price tag show every time.

So, after owning the Zeiss Conquest & hunting it off my .338 Winchester magnum, I'd thought to aquire another one of those for the 6mm.  I could lay my hands on the 3-9 Conquest with the standard duplex reticle for about $380.00 by going through my FFL, if I wanted to go through the hassle.  Due to factors I won't go into here, it's always a bit of a hassle.

Then, a local sporting goods emporium here in the Falls announced a killer sale for the rapidly approaching hunting season.  Everything was to be on sale including, the flier said, Zeiss Conquest scopes.   Got my interest, tell you what.  So I fired up the Hupmobile & got my skinny butt over there. 

There it were, a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 for $399.99!  Trouble was, right next to it was a Leupold VXII 3-9 40mm for $299.99.  No difference in objective diameter & the minor difference in the reticle was no factor whatsoever.  But the made in America & the lifetime warranty were the factors that tipped me to the Leupold.

I've got it bore-sighted & strung, but it's gonna be a bit before it hits the range.  I've got deer, elk, and antelope to hunt in my so-called spare time, so range work takes second place by a long shot.  But it'll make it afore too long, since winter's comin' & the 6mm is my primary coyote gun.

I shoot a 6mm as my primary coyote gun also.  What load has worked best for you?

OK;

First, you have to understand that my 6mm had been abused as a child.  Ugly, nasty, stupid, "things" had been done to it.  But, I got it cheap as the result.

The barrel on mine is now 18.5".  It had been chopped off with a bandsaw & not recrowned.  After I had it crowned, the finished length was the aforementioned 18.5".  Therefore, trying to obtain book velocity is an adventure in its own right.  I found, that in my gun, OAL was the critical dimension that influenced accuracy the most.  Frankly, I haven't had the guts to take a chamber cast & see what it says about the throat.

But:  Winchester cases, CCI std primers.  Hornady 75 gr V-Max bullet over 46 grains of IMR4350, seated to 2.825" OAL.  This gives 3050 fps.

Good scope choice there CB.

I'd not worry about the 18.5 inch barrel; you still got plenty of zip out of the 6mm for most critters.

I don't mind the 18.5" at all.  It makes for a handy quick gun, just ideal for coyote shooting. 

I really should investigate getting another 6mm with something around six more inches of barrel & seeing what it'll do when it can stretch it's legs.
