Fella's;

I am informed that CZ has released the 527 in a left hand version.  The caliber is .223.

That's all I know.  You now know what I do.  I am going to be researching this & see if I can get it nailed down.

Fella's;

A trusted member I personally know on another site has a 2007 CZ catalog.  That catalog does list the 527, .223 only, in LHB.

I think I feel a wallet drain comin' on.

More misery...Do I get this or add a .223 bbl to my Blaser?

OK;

I've put the call into my FFL guy.  I'll try to let you know what the price & availability are on these.  I feel pretty comfortable wanting one even though I've got the Daly LHB mini-Mauser in .223.  The Daly has been a project to get to shoot, the CZ's usually just back up the company's stellar reputation for accuracy with absurd ease.

The Daly, although much improved, still need tuning to get to where I want my walking varminter to be in the accuracy department.

I appreciate your help on this.  I  am confident the CZ will shoot well.  The deciding factor may be availability and pricing.  I already have the mini bolt required for the Blaser.

OK;

I've now seen a 2007 CZ catalog & it's in there alright.  Suggested list price was so near to $700.00 as to make no difference though.  I'm still waiting to hear back from my FFL guy & see what my real world price would be.  Something a lot closer to $500.00 I'm hoping.  Actually considering that a Tikka T3 left lite is retailing here for under $500.00, the 527 should cost me a good size chunk less than that through my supplier.  If CZ wants to be competitive with Tikka that is.  Tikka though does not make a comparable model to the 527 that I know of.

Well, let's see what our choices for a LH .223 are.

  • Remington CDL
  • Browning Micro A-Bolt II
  • Tikka
  • Savage
  • Blaser

I may be leaving someone out.  But, that's not a bad group to choose from, I must say.

OK;

You've probably got the list pretty much correct.  I'm boycotting Remington these last few decades, so the top of your list won't make it into my safe.  But I'd own any of the rest.  Haven't seen the Tikka .223 lefty though.  Have you?  Or is it listed in the catalog, but missing from the dealer's inventory?

I've not seen the Tikka and they may not have this caliber.  I didn't see it on Beretta's website so I may have placed this on in error.

Have you shot the Savage?  Not much to look at but I'm told they really shoot.

900F,

I saw the .223 on berettausa.com last week.  It's stainless and looks really good.  They are such great values, I think I'll have to see if I can get one.

OK;

Here's what I now know.  The CZ is seriously overpriced compared to the Tikka.  Wholesale on the CZ is a very thin slice under what the Tikka is retailing for here in Great Falls Montana.

I'm extremely happy with the Tikka .338 LHB Winchester magnum I've got.  That weighs a lot in this decision.  However, the only way that Tikka is offering the .223 LHB is in stainless/black synthetic.  I'd druther have a different stock.  But the large price difference makes it real hard to vote CZ rather than Tikka.

Where do you think the Tikka will be priced and will it have Tikka rings at that price?

OK;

Scheel's, here in the Falls is retailing the Tikka Lite's for pennies under $500.00.  Something like $499.95 or .99.  That's probably going to be comparable to a Bass Pro, Dick's, or other larger chains in your area.  I would expect that to include the rings, but don't know that for sure.

Do you have a model number on this?  I can't find it on Beretta's website now.

OK;

Scheel's never did get a Tikka LHB in .223 on the rack, but what they have done is bumped up the price a hundred dollars!  Now, the .30-06 that's there is stickered at $599.95.

My FFL guy got back to me & told me his price for each gun.  His wholesale is within a very few dollars from one to the other.  Both over what Scheel's was selling the original T3 lite LHB for at $499.95.  The only thing I can figure is that either Scheel's got a helluva an introductory price on a few guns, or they mis-priced.

In any case, the CZ option is back in the running & will probably be the winner.

Let's see, I bought the 452 left & they brought out the 527 left.  If I buy the 527 left, that means they should follow with the 550 left.  I've already e-mailed CZ suggesting the calibers they should offer the 550 in.  I reasoned to them that everybody else in the left gun game offers the same old tired 4 calibers:  .243, .270, .30-06, and .300 Winmag.  If they want to till unplowed ground they should offer:  6mm Remington, .257 Roberts, 6.5 X 55 Swede, yeah gotta have the .30-06, and .338 Winmag.

What do you think about that?

I'm seeing the same sort of prices you are for LH Tikkas.  Matter of fact there's a guy on gunbroker.com who is trying to get $750 out of his.

At any rate, thanks for communicating with the folks from CZ.  I'd say your caliber choices are excellent.  I would l ike to add a couple to it, both short action.  The 260 and 338 Fed.

Your thoughts?
