also, what bait do you use? do you use ice jigs? we've got a reservoir here that would be grat for northerns and panfish, but i haven't been icefishing for probably 20 years!

We Never eat any fish

We just love to catch them. The only thing to use for ling is

SUCKER MEAT

on a plain hook and a good sized sinker.

I'm glad you don't eat them, they look NASTY.  Seriously, I had to google them to find out they are Burbot (still don't want to eat them under that name)   I bet your "lings" would make awsome Sturgeon bait.

i figured that being related to cod, they would make some good eating. supposedly the milk river has ling/burbot....i might have to see if i can catch a few and will give them a try.

They are good eatin.  You take the back meat and boil it then dip it in melted butter.    I haven't had any in many years.  I hope to get some this winter.
