Just some thoughts. Stock looks OK and if priced competitive with other carbon/glass stocks would be OK. I've never thought that except for sniper stocks and turkey hunting, that camo patterns stocks were needed. So the camo patterns they tout don't mean much to me. The square ammo box door on the side of the butt-stock lots awful to me. Maybe I could get use to it. I realize it is a function vs. looks issue. The stock weight and balance also change with the number of shells stored! The concept of carrying ammo in the stock, doesn't seem to be a big deal for me. I carry only 6 shots (3 in gun 3 in pockets) when hunting deer/antelope/etc. Hunting squirrel and small game with a 22 I carry a box of shells. If I carry more shells they are usually in my pack. This seems to add weight to rifles, opposite to my general desire. Seems to again be a solution to a non-problem. Just my thoughts, I'm actually anxious to hear what others think. I note no long actions stock.....yet, guess that will come with time. BEAR |

Well, after looking at them, and giving it some thought, I don't like the idea, and here is the reason for that. It completely changes the balance characteristics of the rifle. It makes the rifle butt heavy, and I don't like that. Also, the buttstock looks huge and about useless for anything but target/LE work. I also noted the fact that they don't have a lefty-friendly design, so that excludes a good # of customers. When I go hunting, I have my bolt action loaded with 4 in the mag, 1 in the tube, as well as 10 on one of those federal belt cartridge carriers (love those things). I do the same in my Marlin 336. Never used more than 1 shot, but you never know. I know one thing though; I would much rather have that extra ammo on my belt than on the rifle. An extra 10 rounds or so adds a good chunk of weight to a rifle; especially with rounds like the .300 WSM. If that weight is on your body, you can't even notice it, but if it is on your rifle, than that changes the balance and increases the weight of it (both -'s in my opinion). ------------- Leverguns make me smile Proud Left Handed Shooter |

i had 1 of my silouette shoots today . 1 of the shooters showed up with a stock made out of a 2x4 !!!!! it was about 3 ft. long and had 1 hole so he could get to the trigger. we told him he needed some nails bent over and he could use a set of saw horses for a bi pod..... the guy was just playing around , but he got beat by 1 of the new shooters.. next time he says hi is bringing 1 of his good rifles... ------------- mr mom |

The ammo storage concept isn't new, but this one sure is novel. In some of the better eruopean rifles, there are "cartridge traps" and Brownells sells them as a kit to install them. Well, I know they DID, but haven't looked for one or at one in the catalogue in a while. I myself think it looks ugly. Besides, I, like some of you, only carry 4 rounds of ammo. 3 in the rifle and 1 in my shirt pocket. Hell, if I can't get my deer with 4 shots, I don't belong in the woods. ------------- Its Not The Kill, But The Hunt. |

| I have actually handled a Win 70 with one of these stocks. My hunting buddy just bought one for his .270WSM. I was a bit dubious myself until I got to handle it. The balance seems fine, even when there are seven rounds in the hatch. The cartridges don't rattle at all either, which I thought they might do. The ammo storage is useful for Australian hunting conditions, where for a lot of game there are no seasons or bag limits. Typically we drive around until we spot a mob of pigs then bail out of the vehicle and go after them thru the bush on foot and shoot as many as we can. Backpacks and gear on belts can be a nuisance when jumping in and out of a vehicle and pushing thru the bush on foot. The stock I saw is just plain olive. I don't think the paint scheme really matters in a hunting situation. It's just a personal taste thing I reckon. |

| I don't have any problem with the stock. If it's good and stiff towards the forearm and tough as nails from butt to tip, I could like it. As far as changing the balance of the rifle, I highly doubt it. People have been putting nylon belt ammo holders on their rifle butts for years. I used to, but found out that I usually lose several rounds after a hard day of hiking in the thick stuff. Regardless it never really screwed with the rifles overall balance much. I like the concept behind this new rifle stock. I'd like to know what they cost? |
