Just finished packing the car.  Spring turkey season opens here at 5:56 to tomorrow morning.  Season rules are bow or shotgun with 4# or smaller.  Toms only.  And not calling and stalking.  Can't move toward a bird once you hear it...so it is truly calling only.  Must stop hunting an be out of the woods at noon.  So it is a half day hunt.  Lots of local birds close to home.

But I have changed mountain locations for deer hunting after 45 years of hunting the same state forest land...they fenced it in.  So I moved ten miles further up the mountain ridge.  Now my thought for the last two days was to drive 2 1/2 hour and hunt turkeys in the mountains and scout the place for deer.  This means leaving the house about 3 am. at the latest.

I packed the SUV and put $52 of gas in it.  drinking my vodka martini up with a twist now.

As I type two turkeys just walked into my back yard.  With the 10x Bushnels, it is clear that one is a large boss hen and it is missing toes on its right foot...hops a little.  It is feeding well in spite of the 'limp', digging insects out as it scratches up old leaves for fall.

Should I go to the mountains as planned or sleep in and shoot the boss hen tomorrow?

Help on this decision is desired.
