My brother is returning to the fold after having pretty much cleaned out the gun cabinet and not shot or hunted for nearly a decade.  He's looking to get a couple of select pieces to meet several needs.  He seems to have settled on the DPMS Panther LRT-SASS (pictured below) as a combination gun, maybe a little high power competition at one of the local shoots, may a little deer hunting, as long as  he doesn't have to carry it too far.

What do you guys think on their products?  Any experience with them as far as accuracy and reliablity go?

Thanks in advance.  788

I've only owned a DPMS lower but it worked well for me. It came with a nice finish and decent but not match grade trigger. Made here in Minnesota, can't be all bad.

788Fan;

Nice gun, but I can't say it'd be my first OR second choice for deer.  He needs to branch out, expand his horizons, get more guns.  You know, things like that.

DPMS makes a good reciever, I have worked on some of them. Now, high power shooting, if you are referring to NRA type, about the only thing the pictured one could be used for is unlimited match rifle, not service rifle. In fact, I am not even sure that the telescoping stock will be legal for any competition except IPSC three gun matches. Other than that, it looks like a nice rifle....................Kingpin

There are times when a normal man must, spit in his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

The only DPMS that I have is in 6.8 SPC.  The rifle is nice and shoots fine.  The only complaint is the trigger; very stiff and a lot of creep.

My .223 is a Bushmaster and I wouldn't trade it for anything; fine rifle.
