Hey guys, I was willed a pistol from my father-in-law and could use a little help figuring out the correct caliber. Its a ''Arminius'' 7 shot, 2in. snubnose revolver. the barrel says, Kal. .32 Su. W.long. Made in Germany. With it came a half box of .32 Auto. ammo. They seem to be a little sloppy, 'maybe 1000th to small in dia.' when in the cylinder. The bullets are about 1/2 inch shorter than the cylinder itself. Does anyone know just what ammo is right for this little guy???

If it is a US cartridge it could be a 32 S&W long.  tons of 2 inch barrel pocket pistols were made for various 32 cal. low velocity rimmed rounds in the early 1900s.

The ammo usually costs a fortune.  and the performance is often sub 22 LR variety.  other popular rounds for these were the 32 colt, 32 short 32 new police, etc.  They were made in an era of "gentleman's pistols" any one that traveled or was out overnight carried one.  You could empty one in a guy at short range and not kill him.  Strange choice for self-defense....must have been gentlemen muggers too back then.

It is not the 32 auto as that is a true 30 caliber and is a rimless round.  Your revolver surely is for a RIMMED cartridge, you can rule out the 32 auto.

I have had (and currently have) a number of guns in 32 S&W long and short. I often use 32 ACP ammo in them due to the lower cost of the 32 ACP ammo. 32 ACP is a semi-rimmed round and usually extracts well. Even when it doesn't extract well, the jams are easy to clear. I wouldn't carry it for personal protection though.

The Arminus is not a high end gun, but the 32 S & W is an excellent target round in general in the right gun.  I have 6" K frame S & Ws in 22, 32 S & W and 38 Special and the 32 is exceptionally accurate.  Rivals that of the N frame Model 25 in 45 ACP.

Hunter-Fisher, I have a variety of .32 shells. I don't think that it eats the rimless rounds. Why not go deep sea fishing here at the beach and we can see what you have after we hook a few blues, stripers, and tuna. I also think, that if it was willed to me, I probably wouldn't shoot it unless it's a quality revolver, but that's not for me to say. I once owned a S&W "lemon squeezer" that I shot old rounds through. I had one stick in the barrel. I knew there was pitting in the barrel, but I attribute it more to the old questionable ammo than to the gun itself. At the time, it scared me so I traded it to a collector who knew more than I did, for a left handed Rem 760. I wish I had that little gem back. Hind sight 20-20................................Kingpin

I still have a "knuckle buster"  brass frame 22 rf.

Looks good in a fight......but I'd rather have my s&W 39.
