I hope this is false, but I've heard rumors of older vets being encouraged to pull the plug and save the medical resources for younger wounded soldiers. What I've heard is during Hospice Counseling, terminal vets were being encouraged to sign DNRs. I have a friend who works in the local VA alzheimer's (sp) unit and she could neither deny or confirm this. Anyone else hear of this? I think it may be true given the current views. |

I asked a guy I work with, he's retired Navy and he keeps up with VA affairs, about this today. He said while the VA has always encouraged DNRs, VA consulars have become more aggressive on getting everyone to sign a DNR over the last few years. He hadn't heard of any direct pressure to sign DNR, but he agreed, to shame a soldier into signing one wasn't right and would make some calls on it, he said, he would find out is this is true or not. He was pissed and I'm sure, he will get this answered. |
