Marine Haakanson Promoted To Sergeant On June 1st, 2006, a local Marine from Fort Belknap (Montana) was promoted to Sergeant (E5). Congratulations to Sergeant Hawkan Haakanson, who is currently on his second tour in Iraq. He is the Artillery Section Chief for the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment of the Golf Battery from Camp Pendleton. He and his wife, Allisyn are currently based out of Camp Pendleton, California. He will be entering his second enlistment this fall. The 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment (2/11) of the 1st Marine Division is a 155MM Howitzer Battalion comprised of four Firing Batteries and a Headquarters. Their primary mission is the direct support of the 5th Marine Infantry Regiment in time of conflict. Haakanson’s plans are to make a career out of the Marine’s for the next 20 years. Also, he and Allisyn are expecting the arrival of their son, Hawk III in mid-August. Hawk’s parents, who are very pleased with his success as a United States Marine, are DavieLee Shortman and Hawkan and Karen Haakanson. His family is very proud of him, especially his siblings. His sisters are Farron Haakanson and Alicia Ball. His brothers are Tyrell, John and Nick Haakanson, Wayne Doney and Ryan Gray. His only remaining great-grandparent is Dave Hawley, Jr. of Hays. His grandparents are Sharon Hawley, Tim Haakanson, Duke and Norma Jean King and Lindy and Irene Doney. ![]() Sgt. Haakanson is very proud to have followed the succession of Marines from his family that served the USMC, especially his uncle Ron Hawley, his dad, Hawkan Haakanson, Sr. and his cousins, Eric Hawley and Charles Hawley. Hawk is a true warrior with complete confidence and pride in serving in the United States Marine Corps. The famous Marine motto, Semper Fidelis, means “always faithful.” Hawk will honorably keep his faith and trust to the Marines and the Creator. His drive behind his dedication is his family as he joined to protect them and to ensure freedom for his brothers, sisters and most of all for his children. His family is very thankful for all the prayers and requests for continued prayers for his safety and safe return home to his wife and new son. While he is in Iraq, it also proves to be a very trying time for his family at Fort Belknap. He told his mother before leaving for Iraq the second time, “Don’t worry about me, Mom, I am good at my job, I am good at what I do and I love my job….I will come home safe.” |
