Llama??

   I'm not in the market for a pistol, just info. I'm guessing Llama's are probably in line with Hi-point as far as quality, but has anyone ever dealt with them. Their Maxi-1 is a 1911 clone, I've heard some parts are non-interchangeable though. I know of 2 guys that have a Llama, one is the Maxi 1911, he has fired a few hundred rounds through it with flawless operation, not sure on accuracy. I've seen some reveiws saying these are great little guns at great prices, but I'm not sure I beleive it. Anyone have on or used one? I think I'd go for the SA mil spec one, but??

	BKC; Llama's are of Spanish manufacture. I have also been told, on what I consider to be good authority, that parts are not interchangeable between the 1911 pattern guns & Llama's. I've never owned one myself. 900F

	My dad had one years ago he'd gotten in a trade. As G.S. Patton put it so well," ..it belonged to a new orleans pimp." Very solid and well made. I beleive CB is right though, not much parts interchangability. Kind of like the Ballister-Molina.

	*Personally I wouldn't give you a pinch of for a Llama* pistol...** However, the Star is another matter. I had a nice Star Model B in 9mm that shot circles around a Colt Govt 9mm I also had a the time. It's too is very similar to the 1911 pistols, although different internally... *Just my .02*

	Hey BK I had a Llama max in 9mm looked just like the 1911 about the size of the Kimber was a nice carry gun,very faithful never jammed not ever a problem,at 25 yards I could hit anything the size of a grapefruit,not bad for a gun that was under $200,I don't know how many rounds I put through it but it was alot. No the parts are not interchangeable and extra clips were expensive when I could find them.

	Llamas had a horrible reputation for years and years. Stars seem pretty rugged and reliable. None of the parts interchange with a 1911, they are completely different platforms. Similar profile, but that is pretty much it. I understand Llama has worked very hard to raise the level of quality of their guns in the last few years. I'm still pretty uncomfortable with a company whose advertising slogan might as well be "Llama. Our guns are not as bad as they used to be!" I would buy a Bersa from Argentina before I would buy a Llama. The Bersa might even be a bit cheaper.

	bkcorris, I saw one of the MAX-I's at a gun show a couple years back and for the money looked like a decent deal. As a smith, I figured even if it was a lemon, I could at least tune it up and have an honest opinion of these Spanish semi-clone of the 1911. Initially it jammed pretty often, at least once every clip full and the trigger was pretty heavy and creepy. After a couple hours at the work bench touching up the feed ram and smoothing a few other things along with doing a trigger job, I headed back to the range. It performed flawlessly and was very accurate as well. In fact with its favorite load using the 230 gr Golden Saber at just about 950 fps, it will out shoot my S&W 4526 as well as my Sig M245. It will shoot one jagged hole at 20 yards. Only problem is that the issued sights are typical 1911 mil spec quality but with a three dot system. As far as longevity goes, only have a 1000 or so rounds. Alot of the parts for the Llama are NOT interchangable with the 1911, some are and some are with a little fitting. All in all, for a sub $300 handgun, throw in another $100 to a good smith and you will have a very respectable semi-auto that is still several hundred less then even a S&W, at least all steel S&W that is. They have a wide body ultra compact out now with a short 10 shot double stacked magazine and 3.5" barrel I believe. May have to give that one a try just for S&G. Good SHooting!!! 50

	When I worked at B&K Ammunition we tested our .45 ammo in colts and llama,,both ends of the price scale,,with out of the box guns,the llama out shot the colt by a very wide margine,,and as the colt SHOT-IN,it shot better,but never better than the llama,and the lamma never shot any worse 'til we tried the sub-gun ammo in it,,but even then nit out shot the colt.Ive owned .45's,9mm's,357's and a OLD .38 super,,and only the super was a bad shooter 'cause it 'spaced off the rim instead of the case mouth,,but it still shot good enough to use for defense inside 50 yds.
