Tas, I interviewed with Western Education and was offered the job, but due to divorce issues I'm having I had to turn it down.  It really is a great little town.  I had a nice tour inside and out by the owner of the company.  The offer was left open, so I may still end up there at some point, but it's not looking good at the moment.  In the mean time, I guess I'll just have to settle for a place in the mountains in Colorado with mule deer, elk, bear, lion, turkeys and coyotes running rampant (grin).

Hey Muley. So we won't be treated with anymore hot tub photos huh? Figure it must have been you being home too much. Too bad. I could make light of the divorce, but I went though it yrs ago,and it doesn't end up being much fun. Course one thing, since you aren't working, you probably won't have to pay alimony!

Hey, how come you used the fff instead of ff in that Thompson?

How's that barn rebuilding coming, or have the stock had to stay outside all winter?

saddlesore,

Nope, no more hot tub photos -- at least until I find a girlfriend .  Boy, that sounds wierd!

The barn went on hold when the wife dumped this on me, but I was almost done.

It's 36x60 with a 17x60 loft and it is quite unlikely that wind or snow is going to do the number on this one!!!!

It hurts having put soooooooo much heart and soul into building this thing and have to turn around and sell the place.  Such is life!

How's retirement?  We need to hook up for a little BS or maybe a ride one of these days.

On the fff 777, I'm embarrassed to say that when I went out and bought a pound to try out, I didn't know there was both ff and fff versions and just grabbed one.  I didn't find out until later, but the fff shot REALLY well out of the encore, so I lucked out.

Sorry for all the pictures.  Here is another BP bull.  This one fell to a .50 cal Colt Gamemaster, shooting Pyrodex and HP Blackbelts (terrible choice for elk, BTW).

Muley;

T'was the stock that got me to thinking Weatherby, oh well.  Hide the guns or you'll be forced to sell them to meet the financial comitments of the divorce.  You aren't by any chance in the Craig/Steamboat area are you.  'Cause if you are, you might be able to sell the picture takin' rights to the barn to the ski area.  I've been known to hang around Colorado ski areas, I'll admit that.  But I outgrew Coors when I turned 18.

AAAHHHHH..........Muley Stalker, just a slight confession seeings how you're a new guy. I might have been tyring to involve you in a cock fight that you wern't loking for, bringing up inlines and blkpdr substitutes like I did.  As the politicians are wont to say today, it is a"polarizing" topic.

AHEMMM.... now on a completely serious note, Do you happen to know why we in the east call a buck a 10 pointer and you guys out west call then 5 x 5? No Joke...no punchline....serious question.

I always asumed it was because the air east of the Miss was thick enough to allow us to hold enough air in our lungs to keep counting without going faint. Or maybe it originated because the original mountain men lost too many fingers to frost bite and didn't have enough to count that high.

Seriously though, that it a good question and nobody has ever really been able to answer it. Just like different accents I guess.

In fact, I grew up calling the same buck a 4 point (period).  I always figured it was the east coast ego !  Hitchin' up your pants while saying "why heck, I shot me a big 'ol 4 point last year too."

As to the BP substitutes and inlines, I have to admit I've never actually shot true BP, but have only owned sidelocks (the TC was borrowed).  The direction the spark comes from never really mattered a lot to me. I've seen more inlines misfire than sidelocks.  Probably coincidence, but who knows.  In Colorado you can't use scopes, sabots, pelletized powders, etc. so many of the anti-inline arguments become mute around here.

CB, I live just outside of Golden.  In fact, when I pee off the deck, it runs right down to Clear Creek, which runs through the Coors plant.  I figure, they owe me royalties for their unique flavor !  I have to admit I don't often support the local business.  Coors light is great in the summer when it's hot and you're simply looking for refreshment.  When I want a beer, I go for something that actually tastes like beer.  I got a little spoiled years back when I spent a LOT of time in Germany and England (German beer is MUCH better -- that ought to start a war ).

Muley. Hey retirement is pretty good. DOn't know how I had time for a real job, as I have kept pretty busy up to now.Only these last coupla weeks have been slow because of the weather. I cleared about 20 tres of my pace in Jamuary, and the State Forest Service paid me to do it to boot.

I have all my applications in except deer, elk and moose. Figure I'll put in for moose up in area 6 near the Zirkel, as I know it fairly well. About as mcuh chance getting it as a snow ball freezing in hell. I'm still putting in for 201 for elk and figure I have  a good chance of getting a tag next yr, according to thier stats on the web site. I"ll probbaly go up north of Vail again for elk, since that is a two tag area. Probably won't do muzzle this yr as my hunting partner wasn't to put in for area 12 and that is one of the areas that isn't part of the state wide muzzle tag.I might just go up as camp cook. The 1st season north of Vail (Area36) is an either sex, and hopefuly I can draw a tag there as 2nd choice. IF not, ther are alwasy alot of leftover cow tags.

That leaves me pondering what to do about deer. I haven't hunted them much in the last few yrs, because of having to hunt them in the same season that a person hunts elk. Now with that no longer required, I"m thinking about chasing some a bit. Any suggestions as to where?

How many points do you have for deer?  I'm going after bulls in 39 for 1st season and likely cow and buck during my usual 3rd season hunt though I may be able to draw 10 for bucks.  I just haven't had the chance to scout that area out thoroughly and want to before I dedicate 9 points to the cause.  Sheep and goat are close by units.  I hunted cow moose archery in 6 a few years back but am putting in exclusively for bulls now since the new point system.  Not sure which unit yet, probably one with a good population and loooong odds.  I'm due for a sheep or goat tag and have 3+3 for both, so am anxious!

Muley. I don't have any deer points at all. I'll probably just put in for one of the plains unit and build some points, although last yr I got a buck tag for area 36 without points. Probably due to the CWD area status. I did see one nice buck in the 1st season while I was hunting elk.

MuleyStalker good to see you here. I only came over here a month or so ago. Got old Muleskinner's panties in a bunch along with a couple of his devotee's but have since decided this place isn't so bad despite some of the riff-raff. I think Muleskinner got mad, took his ball, and went home. I haven't seen him post much and he doesn't reply to anything I say. I can't tell you what a nice surprise that has been. Anyway you missed the fireworks, but they weren't much, so no big deal.

Seeing that photo of the barn brings back good memories. Makes me sick inside thinking about you having to give it all up. I'm just hoping for your sake all the trade off's you have had to make lately will pay off down the road 10 fold or better. Got my fingers crossed for you.
