To date I have never seen a SIG jam, even when the recoil spring is broken. That's only after 22 years of servicing them. I can't speak about the others, but if a SIG is regularly maintained, it functions all the time.....................Kingpin

alrighty.  let's carry your gambling analogy one step further.  and do so in the context of personal defense, which is what the conversation's been addressing the whole time.  assuming any gun "can" fail, you're betting all your chips (i.e. your life and your family's life) on a discount semiauto of questionable quality, function and reliability.  i'm betting all my chips on a glock or sig whose quality, function and reliability isn't only established but a standard in the industry by which pretty much everything else aspires to.  if one is going to fail, as you're convinced yourself they will, which is more likely to do so?  and will it do so when you need it most?  you're doing a lot more gambling with the things that matter most then i am.  not a comforting thought for you.  i don't choose a handgun ment expressly for personal defense because it fills a niche.  i choose a handgun for personal defense because if fills a purpose.  i think that's one of the difference between hi-point buyers and those who choose to spend a little more and buy quality.  one's happy filling niches.  the other buys with purpose.

You want to send me 500 bucks I will buy a 1911 then you will not have to worry about my so called inferior gun. If you will do a search on HI Points you will see that a lot of folks have shot a lot of ammo through them with out any issues. I never said that the other guns were something I would never buy it is just at this point in time I do not have the money. You try living on a fixed income on SS disability and see how many 500 dollar guns you can buy. When I do buy a good gun I normally have to sell something else to get it which I do not want to do anymore as the guns I have l like or save up which takes a long while to do so. I could take out a loan but I do not want to do so I save that avenue in case I need to repair my truck or do maintenance on it. Like I said I would rather have this than no gun at all. I could carry my SAA does that fit the bill?

jh, i don't think you need someone to give you $500.  maybe a little perspective would be more valuable.  i bought my glock 37 .45gap for $375.  my tanfoglio .41ae for $390.  my bersa thunder45 .45acp for $393.  Heck, i bought my sig switch barrel .357sig / .40s&w for $400.  aside from the 2 mil-surp handguns mentioned earlier, this represents the low end of what i've paid for semi-auto handguns.  and any of these would be a vastly superior option to a hi-point.

i respect the fact that folks are on fixed incomes.  but if someone can budget for a $200 - $240 hi-point, they can certainly save for a couple more months, add $150 - $200 to the fund, do a little shopping and walk away with something they can truely depend upon.

we seem to be kinda talking in circles here.  if you like your hi-point, that's fine.  ultimately, that's what matters.  i'm not defending my house and home with it.  you are.  use it for whatever purpose you feel it's best designed for.  if that be personal defense, then i wish ya the best in that regard and hope the gun goes pop every time you pull the trigger.  especially that one time when you absolutely need it to.

I was joking about the money. Here is the situation I had the money on hand in fact it all fell together I had saved some money from my birthday and I got some money back from a payback from a pool league I play in over the fall and winter. In fact the guy told me about the pistol on Fri and I got the payback on Sat I bought the gun that night. Will I buy a better CC piece later sure I would like something smaller. Will I keep this one sure why not its paid for and it works. Plus anything does ever go wrong with it I can send it back no questions asked.

Saving money is a bitch as I do not have much left over to save. Usually at the end of each month I am broke unless it is a month that every thing falls together.

With the price of gas now and groceries I felt it is not going to be easy to save any money.

Plus with fall coming up I need to save for hunting licenses and some gas money to hunt a little bit anyway. Closest I hunt is where I used to live which is 30 some miles away. Our county is blessed with a lot of  public Co land and state land we can hunt on but it is all south of me.

I suppose you could say you could save the money you use to shoot pool with. Yea I could but that is my getting out in the winter time so I do not sit at home and stagnate. Ten dollars a week for two leagues is cheap entertainment and beats sitting home being a couch potato. I do have a bill at the garage that I been paying on every month that will be paid up in two more payments maybe one when that gets done I plan on taking that same amount and start putting it away again as I will not miss it. That maybe in a year might buy something different.

I also look at it this way Since WI does not have CC yet (That should be remedied soon the bills are in the Legislature now) I have been carrying on my belt a Kershaw Assisted Opening 1550 Blackout. Now I am no knife fighter I figure for now that 45 is heads over heels over that knife.

For what it is worth I have been looking at the gun shops there are no bargains out there. Same with the gun shows.

Down the line I will pick something up again that is handier to carry but for now this will suffice.
