Some crazy folks, like me enjoy shooting and hunting with heavy recoiling POWERFUL  cartridges.

some I've shot include:

50 BMG (in bolt action)
458 W mag
416 weatherby
416 Rem Mag
8x 68
9.3x62
340 Polar Wea Mag
338 re mag

I consider the 348 to be medium!

after shooting and hunting with these I think the 9.3x62 is my favorite, legal for elephant (should one run down the street).  Twice I've been chased by herd of elephants, and my 416 Rem was what I had!  But, I'd feel just as comfortable with my Mannlicher stocked 9.3x62.  With 286 gr bullets I get just short of 2500 fps.  Doubt I'll be shooting  any elephants.  And if I was going to hunt them the 458 with 500 gr bullet would be preferred by me.

Elephant shots are near the zygomatic arches, I figure half way between the ear hole and the eye.  But that is a side shot.  Frontal shots have just too much bone to pass thru.  When in Africa, there are lots of elephant skulls to study re shot placement.

just thinking out loud while suffering with vertigo.

I also ,have a 300 RUM.  In a plastic/fiberglass stock, it does kick.  Actually, might need a walnut stock there, I have walnut stock on my 461 that should fit..

But it is only BIG in powder consumption.

I did toy with a 370 Sako, short of elephant and lion; it will do it all.  I'm not a died-in-the- wool elk hunter.  Only elk I've shot was with a 9.3, and that was a head shot.  Fell so fast it looked like it disappeared.

I have  light weight single shot 30-40 that I load P++.  Folks will not shoot it more than once.  LOL  Maybe the metal buttplate gets them.

I prefer to live life pain free.

I have had a 300 Win Mag and at one time I had a 300 Weatherby. I shot them but I couldn't take one to the range and run 50 rounds through it. I don't have any problem with a 30-06. That's about as hard hitting as I'm interested in.

Maybe I'm just a wuss.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
