Well, not new, but new to me. I went and checked out my friends dads old bow and decided to get it from him He upgraded as he has shorter arms and he finally decided to get a 'good' bow that fit him. This one fits me just perfect. Its a Golden Eagle Predator, it has a new sring and he threw in a rest, stabilizer, 6 newer Easton aluminums, and an old cloth case for $50. Not too shabby IMO! I took the sights off my old bow and installed it and his rest. I also added another nocking clamp to the string and added a pull loop. After a short bit of setting up the pins I wanted, I paced out to 40 and put 6 arrows into about 5 inches! For the first time using the bow I was impressed. I'll have to chrony it tomorrow just for kicks. It is a little noisy, so, any oppinions on what silencers work best, or does it depend on the type of noise/viabrations?

Oh, another thing, he gave me the extra cams for it as well. It has cam "A" installed on it now. I'm assuming that these are only for changing pull lengths, any other changes from the different cams? No B, but I have C and D.

I found out the first bad thing of an accurate bow, split arrows. From 20 yards I had 5 arrows touching, the 6th hit dead center of mass and had nowhere to go, it was on a carbon and shattered the nock and the first few inches of arrow Oh well I chronies it and although not a speed demon by far, I am happy with the feel and accuracy. Carbons are going out a 185, aluminums at 175. The carbons could be trimmed a few inches which I'm sure will net a few extra FPS, not sure if I'll wory about it though.

Now, about the cams?? Just for pull length changes?

They give you a little extra speed and make the weight your holding not as high.,I think is what they are about.

bk : you are doing what the kids do. dont shoot more than 1 arrow at a spot on the target. and as far as the carbon arrow , dont trust it. if you cut it you might miss a hairline crack and 1 of these times you shoot it it might blow on you.  and as for the carbons you might get more speed but the aluinium you will get more knock down power.

Good deal BK,

I remember when I really started getting big into bowhunting in the 80's that the Golden Eagle ruled the roost for quite a while.  The old, old, Bob McGuire bowhunting videos showed nearly all the crew using Golden Eagle stick and string.  Enjoy your new bow and get lots of practice.

As for aluminum vs. carbon, I'm sorta of the same mind as Mr. Mom - the aluminum gives you more energy but I can see the advantages of both. I, in fact, use both.  Haven't decided which performs better.

Mr Mom, that arrow is toast anyway, it split up almost 3 inches, it wouldn't be worht it to strip and refletch. I have had a couple of her arrows that hit a rock and pushed the insert in, I trimmed about an inch off and reglued, but I wouldn't do that with the nock end for the same reasons you stated.

As to the cams, I don't see that thses are designed for performance, but maybe. I've done some searching but can't find any info on which cam is what or changes what exactly. I'm still assuming they are more for draw length but who knows. I suppose i could swap the A and go to the other extreme and see what the D cam does.

The arrow thing is a 50/50 with me right now. I don't feel that energy is that big of a deal with an arrow, it cuts not shocks. the carbons are only 10fps faster but stay about 4-5" higher at 40 yards, flatter is better IMO. Up close, the aluminums group much better, the carbons are ok, but out to say 40 yards the carbons group a lot tighter than the aluminums. I might have to make a decision and get it set up better for one or the other, but the slightly decreased close accuracy wouldn't be a big deal as they group rather well at a distance. A chance of a long shot where I'd go is 50/50 as well so it would be nice to not worry about it.

Lots of playing to come. Between last night and this morning my arms and shoulers are getting tired. I'm trying to keep from overdoing it and getting sore, do now its just having fun and getting a workout.

bk: i have shot deer in the sholder with both aluninem and carbon arrows. carbons with a chisel tip broadhead stuck in the sholder blade. yes it knocked the deer over when it hit . but she got up and we didnt find her. i have hit deer with an aluniem arrow with the same type broadhead and it went threw the bone and keeped her down for a 2nd shot. 1 other thing if you get a pass threw shot on a deer the aluniem will give you a chanel for blood. more than carbons. i still shoot carbons but as soon as i get red of these im going back to the others.

Well then maybe you shouldn't shoot for the shoulder

I tried switching cams, the only difference I see is about a 2" longer draw with the D cams, no other diff, put the A cams back in as they fit better.

So far in less than 24 hours, I've shredded 2 carbons, broke the nock off an aluminum, and lost three, but found all in the field. Too much screwing around with to small of targets but it is fun
