I recently inherited a Ruger American in 30/06.
I never got on the '06 wagon and never had one. No really need for it as a "game " rifle, SOOO. I got some 30 cal 110 gr V-max, Varget and went to work. I have come up with a load that prints an inch at 200 yards and averages 3550 fps. I have a p dog trip coming up next weekend and plan to try it out. My normal P dog go-to is my junkyard 6mm rem. It's a laser and never fails to impress me but, it has a 26" barrel and is VERY heavy the Ruger is 5.5 pounds lighter. The 6 is perfect for walking short ways than shooting for an hour and then moving a few 100 yards and shooting some more. The '06 would be more of a walk and blast and walk some more. Now for a wheelbarrow to carry the ammo !!! ![]() |

It will be interesting to see what you think about it.
At that speed what do you think the barrel life will be? Wing master

Allen makes a nice little folding game cart that if you throw a chunk of cardboard on should work nicely as an ammo hauler......maybe a tarp and fold up over it...keep your powder dry and from sliding off.

....Shame you don't have like a powered cart to save on the dragging of the large quantities of ammo and supplies.....like maybe even be able to ride it...nothing fast, just to save on the back and milage.........That would be amazing!

The '06 does it all.
load it to +P pessures and it is a magnum, like the new unbelted ones.
