Bear,  I decided to start a new topic on Trigger Shoes instead of hijacking the other post.
WE might be only two who even remember or know what a "trigger shoe" actually is!
I also have some Trigger Shoes made by ACE. No idea who ACE was or were but were sold by Flaigs. Maybe both made on same machinery. They look alike and use the same two allen screws to hold the unit to the trigger. Both came in a small square plastic box. You are correct in that triggers of the past were narrow. The wide trigger shoe gave the mechanical advantage of seemingly having a "lighter" trigger pull & to me anyway better trigger control.

these show ACE sold by Flaig....another one:

bear,  here is one place that still offers a trigger shoe. far cry in cost from the $2.95 Flaigs price of 3 decades ago.  They are $35 + $8.95 SF&H. More for the bronze colored ones.

thought I'd add something from my other post to this topic.

Yea, I live close to Flaig's "up on the hill".

Those trigger shoe were not made by Flaig's but designed and sold by them.  Actually a small machine shop in Monroeville PA made them.  That shop was a client of mine and I got to see them make them (automated screw machine).  they were greaat shoes, and that shop tried to sell them after Flaig's went out of business (owner died).

Got a bunch of those shoes on my guns, never had one move, those two allen screws wworked.

The shoes were great for the rifles of that era, as all had really slim triggers; mausers, springfields, 70s, Salo, etc  that was because they made the slot in the trigger guard small, to keep strength.  Rem 700 and others lead the way in the late 60 to making wide triggers.  so much of the need for the shoes declined.

Few shooters  today remember those  2" ads in the   'Rifleman' magazine.    Just olde farts like you IBD and me.

The Tyler T-Grip people make trigger shoes as IBD posted above.

Just a word of warning, I've ordered T-Grips from them and here's how it went.

They don't take online or phone orders. If you call them you'll get an answering machine and they don't call back.

You have to write what you want on a piece of paper and write them a check. Then mail it to them.  Then you wait. I waited a couple months, about the time I forgot all about ordering in the first place. Then my T-Grip showed up in the mail.

They make a great product and if you're not in a big hurry it's worth the wait but kinda a crazy way to do business now days.

P.S. I'm not all that old but I remember trigger shoes. I've never owned one but have seen them.
