Around here height on rear legs when standing up means life or death in winter.  all folage under 5' is gone, so how high a deer can reach means food.  You are probably correct, it wil be a tough winter for these two.  Mom was still licking their faces and necks (getting ticks and bonding).

I'm supporting them.  Feeding them my shrubs, flowers, and plants....and any tree under 6 foot!

Bear,
Pretty much the same here too.  More fawns than ever.  Last week on an evening walk I counted 14 fawns.  On a 2 mile evening walk from my house 3 days ago I counted 58 deer.  Even with a mild winter I think many might starve.  Most are so tame that you can walk within 10 feet of them.  That's what happens when they are born in urban yards.
Deer in the mountains are fewer than ever.  I suspect the lions and wolves are to blame.

Ever heard of a cupcake and martini party? Karen’s gather on a porch and line up cupcakes to feed the deer and bear while they sit on the porch with the martinis.

"cupcake and martini party"   I have one everyday at 4:30, use to be 5:00pm  but as I got older, I moved it up.
