Fella's; Since the Bushnell Legend 5-15 mil-dot A/O went on the .223, I'm gonna need another scope for the Savage MKII .22lr. My thoughts are to go with either the Weaver 2-7 X 28mm rimfire, or the Sightron 3-9 X 32mm rimfire. Either is available in the $130.00 range & either would fit my needs with this gun. The gun itself is good for about 60 yards, maybe out to 75 if it shows improvement with continued work. A third alternative is to go back to the Tasco 2.5 X 10 mil-dot A/O that I originally had on it, & save almost 50% over either of the other two. I like the mil-dot concept, particularly on my gopher-shooting guns. There, the action is fast, no time to fool with turrets & the mil-dot reticle is a real plus in getting the job done. However, with the single exception of the Tasco, nobody seems to be able to supply a .22 rimfire type scope with mil-dot in the price range I want to be in. So, while mumbling, grumbling, & drinking a beer, I thought I'd put the question out to the board at large. 900F |

Are you going the dedicated rimfire scope route for parralex reasons?

Rob; Yup, it's either that or A/O. Since the Savage isn't ever going to be a 100 yard tack-driver, I can't see paying money for A/O that's going to get very little use. I also don't see this scope leaving this gun except to possibly go on another .22 rimfire. 900F |

I was thinking, maybe, a shotgun scope in a fixed power. Don't know what's out there though. A one inch tube would be better I'd think but I really haven't looke thru many rimfire scopes lately, maybe they've gotten better.

I have a RF 4x Bushnell, think I paid about $95 for it from Cabelas. I wanted it for the close focus. It has a 1 inch tube and is very well made. I use it for tree rats and some groundhogs. Also works well on tin cans. The crosshair is med-fine and woods good for me even in dark hardwoods for squirrels. I would recommend it, and would buy another. BEAR |

MRM; Yes, it can be all that bad. I've distorted my eyeball trying to look through whatever mystery substance that was attempting to imitate glass that was in that particular BSA. 900F |

Here's a series of scopes that are very reasonably priced and seem to be gaining rapidly in types available and in popularity. I understand parts are made in Japan. The small company is located in upper Mich and is a fairly new firm. Poke on a model and see prices. http://www.muelleroptics.com/Site_Map.htm The last two scopes I bought are Cabellas Alaska Guide types and I'm very pleased with them. I might just make the next a Mueller type. Regards, Gene Edited by EDip |
