taking my shrivelled upp old body out to a gun show tomorrow.

Seems that the WSSM fad is over.  Might look for a bargain.

Any WSSMs worth owning?

The only thing that interested me was the 25WSSM but that's about it.

The few local gunshows I've gone to have drastically dropped prices on the WSSMs.

I looked at the 243 wssm, for a minute or two, I was thinking, it may make a fair round in a AR15 platform varmint rifle, 20"-24" barrel, 95 gr at 3,200+.  I'm now leaning towards a AR10 in 243 or 308 just waiting for price and funds to come together.  I have 243s and 308s bolts, already so it would make more sense, to me, to add AR in one of those cals, than to go AR15 243wssm route.

Bear;

IMHO none of the WSSM's were worth spending any money on.  I'm with The Mountaineer though in that if I had to have one, that's the one I'd pick.  I'd much rather have seen a .25WSM, that would quite possibly been interesting enough to actually own.

I've shot the 243 WSSM and the .300 WSM.

I saw the 243 take a few deer but didn't see it do anything my 243 Win couldn't do. Try and find ammo for it. Last I saw were $48/20 at Gander Mtn.

The thing that a .300 WSM does well is not kick. I shot my .300 WBY right after shooting the WSM off a bench and wow what a difference. The loads were about as close as could be, both 180gr and within 100fps. It made me think it would be a good cartridge in a Kimber Montana or other ultra lite rifle.

I was waiting for a .375 WSM to come out but they say it wouldn't produce H&H vel's.

To me it is facory powders that they won't sell for reloading that I'd like to have rather than any WSSM/WSM.

Oh well here I am again odd man out. LOL  I love WSM's and .243 WSSM,enough that I'm loaded up with 4 of them.

To me the .270 WSM filled a spot, that I wanted filled for a long time,I really thought the .270 Weatherby was the the had to have rifle from Weatherby, but who wanted the ammo price's,enter the WSM's . I have had more sucess with mine as far as long range clean kills than any rifle I own. I have a .300 as well, and belive it or not it's a Remy.

I really thought Winy screwed up by making the .25 a WSSM rather than a WSM,it almost identical to the 25-06 in that little fat shell, but maybe had they gone with the WSM case they may have jumped up there with the Weatherby .25.

I have the .243 WSSM and so does my middle son. It's a great little round that you can really crank up the speed with, kind of like a .240 Weatherby in a baby case.  My grandkids love to shoot the rifles as does my DIL. Bad points, ammo I have had no trouble finding it yet, plus I reload for it,and stock piled a bunch of brass for it. On Gunbroker out of all the WSSM's the .243 is the one still holding it's own the .223 and the .25 price's are dropping.

It is one wicked little gun,for yotes, deer, varmints of all kinds. I used mine yesterday on my doe hunt. Could I have done the same thing with my .243,yeah probaly, but the sound no boom just a crack. Whats more fun to drive,my truck or a Vette ? OK where's my buddy KP,I'm fixin' to get hamered.

Just one more quick thought, After yesterdays hunt,I know you folks out west don't have to deal with this much, but back here having a little light weight rifle that packs a punch, and can shoot through little tiny holes when walking through thickets where at times your thinking what the heck ? I'm trying to get in here where the rabbits have a hard time. It's really a handy little jem.

Agree about wanting FN/Winchester to develop the 25 WSM rather than the 25WSSM would've made a lot more sense.

It seems to me that there were some talks about the WSSMs getting a chrome line barreled due to excessive erosion.  Was wondering if this was true or simply another internet gun debate?

I believe at one time one of the reloading companies, Hornady maybe, published an article about the WSSM's & barrel erosion.

"The sixth edition of the Hornady Handbook relates that "this cartridge (223wssm) is hard on barrels," with significant throat erosion visible after only 350 rounds had been fired. "
