I grew up in England and New York State, handguns all but verboten in the first and an arm and a leg to get a permit for in the second, rarely seen by me in either.
My first handgun was a used Uberti Remington .44 cap and ball repro that I got while a grad student in Texas. Then after becoming an official State resident when I began working here I bought an Enfield Mark 1* .380 British revolver (1943, with sand in the grips when I took it apart).
When Clinton got elected in 1992 I got serious about buying guns while I still could and got a 3" Smith Mod 60 in .38 Special. When Smith brought it out I upgraded to this same revolver in .357. Still is my favorite handgun.

i talked to my buddy the other day.. he has a smith mod. 17 with a 6 in. bdl. and its for sale... 250. bucks.. not in bad shape eather. i might have the wife talked into it.... if i could buy back all the guns i have had in the past , i might need a few more gun safes.....
The model #17 aka "k-22" is great . I have one with 6 inch barrel and 'Fitz grips' on it. it carries like the 38 frame it is built upon and cost nothing to shoot, but shoots like a house on fire.
Go for it.
I have probably only sold 4 of my guns in the last 45 years of gun buying. Take my word for it, you don't need more safes......just more gun rooms.

My first was a Kentucky in .45 caliber, bought it in 1975 to go with my rifle of same make and caliber. Many have came and went since then. My all-time favorites were a brand spanking new Ruger Single Six (Bi-Centennial) and the 70 series Colt .45 auto bought the same year. Sure wish I still had them. The Ruger was my trap line gun.

My first handgun was a Colt Trooper MKIII, 6" barrel, nickel plated. I was 22 yrs young. That was early 1975. Wanted a S&W29 but they were selling for $500 and back then that was a lot of money. The Trooper caught my eye and it was love at first sight. And what the heck, a 357 was a magnum just like the 44, only a bit smaller. I think I paid about $300 for it. Used to drive up a canyon road near home before going to work in the morning and shoot a bit, and I'd be happy as a clam all day. The only bad thing was those diamond checkered grips on it. Back then I didn't even know what reloading was so I used full power factory loads. On cold mornings those grips would really dig into my hands, and I can still remember the pain even as I had a big grin on my face while shooting. Ended up selling it about 2 years later so I could finally get the M29 I'd been wanting. Sold that one later too. Wish I had them both, but a young fool and his guns are soon parted. Tom

My first handgun was a 6 inch Colt Python bought right after I got orders to ship out to Viet Nam. I kept that pistol for over 25 years believe it or not and shot very well with it on targets. Priced paid at that time was $175.oo US money. It truely was a sweet shooting pistol and far more manageable than the model 29 S&W I picked up after getting out of Uncle Sams service.
