Fella's; I got out to the range this AM to shoot for the first time with my new glasses. It'd been about 5 or 6 years since my old prescription & it was about time I got it updated anyway. Besides, the left bow broke, which forced the issue. I became pretty unhappy with the shop I'd ordered them from as there were delays. Delays that extended beyond the opening of big game season. Turns out, all the game I've shot this year were with my old glasses, and the broken bow held on with electrical tape. But, nonetheless, I was able to make the shots. Good thing I had the old cheaters on too. At 100 yards, with the new glasses on, the field of view through several scopes appeared as though there was a major parallax problem. The target circles weren't concentric, the view was blurry. After re-setting the ocular diopter, at least the crosshairs were sharp, but that was all. As the scope wasn't an A/O, I couldn't play with the distance setting either. I fired three rounds & got a group that made me want to puke. This gun very reliably shoots just under MOA. I switched to a gun that had an A/O scope & things could be improved by twisting the distance, but it still wasn't sharp & clear. I could blink & things would get sharper, but if I pulled off & returned it was blur city again. Obviously, me eye muscles were attempting to correct, but reallly had to work to do it. I then went to the third gun & shot it. The Zeiss scope was some better than the Leupold on the first gun, neither being A/O, but it still was by no stretch of the imagination "good". That group, out of the new 6.5 Swede, went about 1.5", from a gun that had been under .5" with the same load. I went to the opthamologist who did my prescription & had the glasses checked against the records. I was told that they looked to be what I'd ordered. I then scheduled a new eye exam. We shall see. 900F

Fella's; Well, the result of the consultation with the opthamologist, was that the situation was made clear, but the lens's still suck. However, the new prescription is not all that much different than the old one with one major exception. That being the amount of corrective prism in the two lens's. Because of the prism, having the eye stay centered in the optical axis is reasonably important. When I shoot, I'm looking through the upper right corner of the left lens, and that's not near the optical axis. With the old lens's, far less prism, things are fine. However, a solution was found! The glasses gal there found a set of frames that could, with minor grinding, take my old lens's. Cost of a new frame & lab work ($140.00) resulted in a spare set of glasses that I can shoot with. That's way less than 1/2 of the new glasses. If it wasn't so damned cold I'd have gone to the range today. But, it's supposed to get bitter cold over the weekend, and I'm just a-gonna wait it out. 900F |

I've run into the same situation, it just comes with age. I just use different RXs, I also found a cheap source of glasses, I just order weaker RX for shooting, as older eyes don't fine tune as well, I'm nearsighted and have glasses .25 less powerful for intermediate work (open sights) and pair .50 less powerful for computer, I also have pair overpowered by .25 for sharper vision at distance (scope AO) I've also found higher index lenses are the worst, go with the cheaper-thicker-heavier lens, they affect your scope vision less. In your case I would just order a pair with the old prism RX or less. If you sign up for e-mails, they have BOGO offers and such often. use code IF5FN9C179 for 15% off Edited by RobertMT |

Never give up your old set. They come in handy.
Have you even noticed how new glasses want to jump off your nose and hit the rough concrete the first day after getting them fitted. Even pair seem to have one set of deep scratches in them. |

I typically focus my scopes for use without my glasses. My far vision ain't that bad yet, I'm not sure if it will work when it gets worse. My old glasses always come in handy unless they got scratches. I hate looking through scratches. I'm now ordering polycarbonate lenses without any coatings - just to avoid scratches. Anyway, you might try re-focusing without your glasses and see if that works for you, if you haven't already. Getting old sucks.

I think I see the problem. You are shooting with the wrong eye. |

Also, as I shoot the eyeglass lens isn't square with the rear scope lens. With less than perfect glass I get a lot of distortion. Some days I can shoot better with glasses, some day better without....and someday I just take 5 shots and go get a Knob Creek and cigar and bag the range. Edited by BEAR |

Fella's; None of you are an optician, at least that you've admitted to anyhow, so you don't understand. I highly doubt that any of you have a prism factor in your prescription. I have lots of it, and it's not a good thing. What it does is fakes my eye into seeing with something approaching binocular vision. Without binocular vision, you see double, when you see double, life sucks, and you can't race motorcycles anymore. 900F |

Prisms are great if you need them, I've bought about 20+ pair for my daughter since she was about 3 years old. If you need them nothing else will do, prisms got her thru school.
