Anybody shoot a 9mm on a 1911 style frame? Many moons ago I had a Series '80 Colt Government in 9mm that I had bought new in box. Sold it and kinda miss it. I just missed out on a good deal on a Commander sized custom 9mm on a Colt frame:

I also once had a Series 70 type Colt Combat Commander in .45ACP and would like to get another but they are kinda scarce in Canada right now...

Regards, Marcus.

NL,

Never had a 9mm/1911. At one time I think they did sell a few back in the late 60's through the 70's. Colt, Star, and Llama all had a version I seem to recall. High capacity DA 9's probably stole the market away from them pretty quick in the 80's though. I used to hear that alloy framed Commanders would crack somewhere around the 5000 round mark in the .45 chambering. I'd bet the 9's would be less likely to fracture. I bet the 9's are pretty tame in a full size 1911 due to the weight of the pistol.AW

the best thing about the 9/1911 was to ream it to .38super to headspace on the case mouth,,add a N.M.bushing and away you go to the winners circle!!

sir north: i had a colt combat camander in 9mm . it was brushed nickel. nice gun, but i hated picking up the brass and got rid of it. this last summer when i had the kids at the pistol range a buddy had a colt .22 lr auto on a 45 frame . no that was nice. i wouldnt have to pick up the brass with something like that.

Mr. Mom - I had a brush nickel Colt Combat Commander once but it was in .45ACP. Now that is one pistol I'd pay big bucks to get back! I also had a Series 80 Government in 9mm but found a $125 Star Model B 9mm shot circles around it! [and it came with 2 spare magazines!]

As for the .22lr on a .45 frame, I've had a Colt .22 Conversion Unit for many years. Currently, it's parked on a refinished 1942 Colt USGI frame with a Videcki aluminum trigger. Deadly accurate. Now that's one combo that always goes to the pistol range!

Regards, Marcus.

sir north: if i still had all the guns the i have sold, i dont think i would need another.   i also had a gold cup. that 22 auto wasnt a conversion. that was a sweet piece. makes me wish i still had my high std. mil trophy. wish i would have keeped some of those toys. i think im going to cry.     but i look at it this way. im telling my kids dont get rid of anything they get. my oldest spotted a marlin 35 rem. up north last weekend . he want to go back and get it . it is an older 1 . looked in good shape.

Those 1911's are dead sexy . If i didnt want a hunting handgun next, i would probably buy a 1911 for a handgun. Don't know what copy though. Probably one of the cheaper ones. I almost bought one instead of the Blackhawk, but all the guy had were Safari or something like that.
