Well i usually thought that winter fishing was a waste of time when it came to trolling until i saw a pic at the marina yesterday of a 9 1/2 pound rainbow trout that just got caught on February 24th. Thats a big trout for the lake it came from. The average size is usually 5 pounds with occasional 7 pounds on rare occasions. The guy at the marina told me that ever since they tried stocking the lake with that million salmon fry the day before our fishing derby last year that its been one big feed fest and the trout seem to be getting bigger in size. I just thought that the fish would be less active in cold water. How deep would i have to troll in order to get some action in that temp of water? I never go out in the winter with my boat but im sure as hell are tempted now after seeing that pic.

another key to fishing in the winter is make your presentations slower and bigger as the fish are more lethargic!

Slower yes but there Metabolism has also slowed down and you need to down size your bait. Smaller is the key I think any way.
