evening, all.

got a little bit of a slowdown in the harvest rush this weekend so was able to enjoy a scheduled day off.  last night, we'd decided on a family fishing trip but there was a good chance of rain in the forcast.  with the uncertainty, decided against taking the boat.  if things looked promising when we woke up, we'd just throw the poles in the wifes car with a couple lawn chairs and do some bait fishing from the shore.

was up at 4:20am and of course     ...     raining.  go.  no go.  we kicked other family adventure ideas around for a while and kam finally said, lets go fish'n.  nuff said.

we were on the road by 6 with egg mcmuffins in hand and i'll be darned if the rains didn't taper off the closer we got to the rocky mountain front.  baited the first of six poles and had it in the water by 7:20.  was working on number two when the first bent over heavy.  good sign.  i set the hook, son reeled as best he could and wife netted.  great start :

by the time i finally could get all 6 poles in the water, we had three other nice rainbow's in the cooler.  heavy, thick, deep fish.

by the time the rains did finally move in, we had 5 fish ranging from 17 3/4" and 2 1/2 lbs to the two largest i'd ever gotten on this particular pond of water at 19 1/2" and 21" and 4 1/2 lbs.

granted the ole rinkie-dink scale i was using probably wouldn't qualify for record measurement purposes but i've never had a rainbow on it that surpassed that 4 lb. mark so it was a banner day for the allen clan:

kam wanted to stop by grandma and grandpa's house and show them his "monsters".  lol.  he was keeping the 21", 4lber for his own dinner but gladly gave them the 19 1/2"er.

never thought we'd have this kind of luck from the shore of a lake that had historically been kind of a slow one for me personally but kam made the right decision to get up there when we did so i'll give him all the credit.

AWESOME DAY !!!   now, back to work tomorrow.

Willowcreek trout can be very fishable for shore. Looks like some good eating , that is if you EAT trout...
I don't mind catching trout if there BIG trout.
We have not seen many fishing trips come from your direction I was wondering if you gave it up ??
It's always a good trip with family...
WAY to go , nice fish.
In MT if you wait for the weather you will NEVER go...

no, hadn't given up.  just seem to run outa time real easy during the summer months.  last time we had the boat out was over the 4th on willow creek and it was dead, fishing wise, anyway.  there was so much water activity (ski boats, jets skies) up and down the entire lake i'm wondering if that's what killed it.............just to much camotion.?.?.?.?  we did ok from the shore then but yesterday was a first with as fast as they were hitting.

i always hope we catch at least something to keep it interesting for a 7 year old when we go out fishing.  never any guarantees and he'll learn that but yesterday certainly didn't disappoint, on that front.  he was all grins.

Good days are the best with family. It takes them a few years to understand that of course, but years from now, those will be the memories they recall.....that and a bad day of fishin is still better then a good day at work, but that comes later as well.

Nice fitty's!
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!
