All most wrecked the Hewes!!

    Man I all most did it big time!! We were in the Missouri above Carter walleye fishing the water was lower then it was in September but it was workable ( we Had to push it off the trailer) Fished for some time, no fish. we were heading back looking for some new spots to fish when I stated to hit some rocks, I hit the gas and turned in to the river,BAM BOOM BUMP up on to a gravel bar we went. Gravel the size of soft balls to foot balls and only 3" of water, Side ways! It took two hours of lifting, rocking and pushing in some very COLD water but we got it off with no harm!! We only got One carp ( 12,lb)The wind was around 30 mph so putting it up on the trailer was no fun  
I hope we get some more water soon I would hate to do that every trip!!

	I know the experience. But I usually do that ground breaking in the Florida keys. Warm water and air....but sometimes hard coral. When you run the shallows (aka flats) for 30+ miles in 3-4 foot of water it is difficult to determine when a shallow bar will "appear". My immediate response is to shut the engine down ASAP. I know this knocks me of plane and I will draw more draft....but it limits lower unit damage. I can usually float off or if the tide is going down fight the SOB back a 100 or so yards to drift depth. With tidal waters it is heart breaking (maybe heart attacking) to watch the tide make you grounding even lower as the waters recedes. BEAR
