I am looking for information on reloading for Deer Slugs. I have a MEC 600 Jr, Mk 5 that I just bought, but I have been reloading metallic cartridges for many years.

I just need to know what people have tried, where to start and what could be Max loads that I should avoid.

Thanks,

Jerry

Back about 35 years ago I reloaded 12 guage slugs and cast foster style slug/bullets for it.  That was to save $$$.  But lately the prices are so cheap, I've not bothered.  Did kill a nice 200+ pound boar with a 12guage 870 three weeks ago.  Used Remington sluggers.  Shot it at about 40-50 yards in thick stuff; recovered the spent slug when butchering it.  Slug was perfectly expanded and was on the off side skin after penetrating the chest cavity, braeking two ribs, and passing thru the shield on the offside.

Got two hams to roast now and some pork lions.

Bear,

We have a lot of wild boars around here, besides our political electees. I am just sort of planning for the possible future on having high ammo prices or a no ammo situation.

I have notices that I can buy a 100 rounds of #8 shot shells at Wally World for $22.00, so I have a few of those carton tucked away.

I enjoy shooting my 870 a lot, bagged several deer and a couple of coyotes.

Mr Mom,

Where in Michigan are you? I am a transplant to the Buckeye state. I used to work above the Grand Rapids area.

Thanks,

Jerry

I stayed in Morely, a really lovely place. Home of the Moe Z Inn.

Great hunting around there.

I didn't like the Sand Lake area in the spring, it seem to attract tornados, otherwise it wasn't too bad of a place.
