Well, today is the First Day of Trout Season here in the Southern part of PA...

We had a major amount of rain the beginning of March and it happened about a week after the PA Fish and Boat Commission stocked many of the creeks in the southern part of the state...the rain made many Creeks over flow their banks and run higher then normal for a few days...most of the creeks were "Bucket" Stocked, meaning the Stock Truck showed up and the guys helping were handed 5 gallon buckets filled with trout and took them and dumped them into holes near the roads along the creek...this normally creates holes to have 4-6 buckets of trout in them and causes many 1 dayer guys to sit right at that holes and clean it out FAST...

Not this year, with all the rain and the high water, it washed those trout right out of those holes along the roads and scattered them thru out the creeks!

1 Had to work HARD to catch trout in most Creeks today, no sitting at 1 hole and having your 5 fish limit in 10 minutes!

We can not start fishing till 8 am the first day of trout, I normally for go going out for the 8 am opening time and wait until 10 or 11..today I waited till 11 and headed out, met up with a buddy, he had 1 trout from 8am till I met up with him..he was fishing a spot and I wasn't interested in fishing there so I pointed a spot out under a tree for him to try, he pulled a 14 inch brown out from under there...he and I headed to another part of the creek and I started fishing, I missed a nice Brown from under a log jam at a bridge and then caught a 13 inch rainbow, didn't want to keep it but it had engulfed the roostertail spinner and had it in it's gills and was bleeding majorly so I ended up keeping it... my Buddy and I walked a good 3 miles of the creek, I went from the roostertail spinner to butter worms and started having hits but missed them, my buddy ended up with 2 more as we fished that 3 miles of the creek...

All the holes that normally held trout had no trout at all in them, we ran into many guys (Could tell they were the 1 day and done type of guys) and all they were doing was complaining that they had not caught anything..but all they were doing was sitting at a deep hole trying to get a bite and catching not a thing!

Tomorrow we are going to hit the same creek again, another 3-4 miles of it that we did not hit today and start around 7 am to see if we can catch anything...

This is going to be a nice trout season this year for me and all my Buddies I trout fish with...the trout are spread out and will last for a while and most likely we should have some hold overs for the fall winter fishing and some nice trout for next years opener!

Trout, Trout!!

 Good luck with that !!!

 I hate trout !!!!

We are going to have so much water the opining week end will suck too. Most of the "creeks" will still be frozen the ones that aren't will have snow and mud up to your But...

Remember: Four boxes keep us free ,the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, AND the cartridge box

Years ago I learned to avoid opening day in Penns woods for trout.  High water and to many people.  I start the first of May and love June-July, no one but me and the fish.

Woody, you have spirit to fight the angry mobs.  the las opening day for me was 1966.  I hiked about 3 miles up Laurel creek, by going over two mountains, not along the creek.  I was fishing a riff and then two guys in hip boots started walking up the middle of the stream right in front of me.  They were fishing salmonettes on a Colorado spinner.  One cast in each hole and then walking right thru the hole/creek up to the next hole.  They had about twice the allowable limit hanging on one of those yellow poly-rope stringers.

End of early PA fishing for me.

I went to the range today.
