I imagine many don't think of Amazon when they shop for optics. I just bought a Leupold 3x9 ultralight for $305, forty bucks better than the next best online retailer. I always go to Amazon first when I'm buying anything, I bought a Powermatic jointer and a sleeping bag in the past few months, they have about everything and I've yet to find a better price.

At the time I bought mine there was a free shipping incentive. Some of the items Amazon sells and some of the stuff is from other dealers who use Amazon as an outlet. I just looked and those that charge shipping had it around $186. The unit I bought came from Amazon. It's an 8 inch unit.

Primary use is to get the top and one side of a blank square. Getting a blank square with hand planes had me pulling my hair out. WHen I get the garage completely finished inside I'll use it for other things as well. It makes an incredible amount of chips, I rig two shop vacs to it and they can't keep up

A spray product called Topcoat will not effect finish adhering to wood and keeps jointer and saw table tops clean and slick and rustfree. Rocklers and Woodworkers Supply is our source. Does pretty good as an inside case neck lube too. So do you do the side or top first? Jointers make me nervous. |

I do the side first. I'll look at those products. I used a non-silicon floor wax when I got it. I've only used it a couple times to date. It sure does make life easier. I'm still working on my plane skills though. Quite an art to it I think.

Those jointer chips make great flux for smelting wheel weights. Stirring a handful into 20 pounds of lead makes lots of ash that pulls the impurities to the top of the melt where they can be skimmed off prior to pouring into ingots. Blanks would be especially good as they are dry. Less worry about a visit from the tinsel fairy. RD
