I should of added this question in with my other post so i apologize. Like i said earlier, i plan on putting two patches on my boat and i need to know what thickness or guage the metal patches have to be. I was thinking 1/16 but im not sure. Can i use galvanized instead of aluminum if need be?

No galvanized, no steel.

Use a patch the same thickness as the hull.  just mic it.

There is marine grade AL, but any good AL sheet will do.  If the patches are small you might be able to get some from and Al farbication shop.  A free scrap is good...usually means BSing for a half hour.
