Today at the range I Finally had my reading glasses with me. Just regular store bought glasses that are 1.25X. I had 3 rifles. I took the time to rest each rifle carefully on target and move my head up and down, left and right, while the rifle remained steady.
The 3 scopes used were Nightforce, Leupold and Weaver.
Without glasses the crosshairs moved. When I put my reading glasses on and did the same, the crosshairs did not move. Same thing on each scope.
Also, one of the last groups I made was 3 shots at 100 yards from a sitting position with the Win 270, without glasses. Looking through the scope, each shot on the target looked like 2 shots touching. I had double vision! Then I put my glasses on and could clearly see the individual holes.
NOTE: With no glasses I focus the scope on the target; when I put the glasses on I have to re-focus the scope onto the target. As an example, with no glasses, at 300 yards the scope is set at 300 yards and all looks clear, except there is parallax. I put the glasses on and have to set the scope at 400 yards. Then all is clear and there is no parallax.
All of this shows me one thing. Getting old stinks!!!
When I go hunting I'm sure not gonna say, "Hey big fella, would you wait a minute while I put my glasses on so I can hit you dead center"! Maybe I'll start wearing the glasses more for target shooting, but I just can't see taking them along for hunting.
