seems like the Adjustble Objective lens on scopes is fast being dropped from anything except top of the line morels.

 

Who makes a decent  3x9- 40mm with an AO?

It's not necessary on a 3-9X in most cases Bear.  About the only place you'd find it is in the air rifle scopes.  A/O is usually only seen on scopes that have an upper X over 10.
