Anyone of ya fellers use'd one of them Garmin Rhino 120's?  I'm think'n this would be a good xmas gift for the boy (so I can find his sorry but if he get's lost).

For those who ain't seen one it's a Radio and GPS put together and every time you click the button it shoots off yer location and it shows up on ta other guy's display.

In a way it'd cut down on equipment if ya were intendin' to carry both, and it might say ya alot of trouble if'n ya got a green horn with ya.  (NO pok'n fun at me for goin' with SS - even though it ain't a bad ideer).

My brother and I have a couple and they work well.

The location sending part only works on the FRS channels, not the GMRS channels, so the range is limited to about 1/2 mile in trees.

As a pure GPS, the screen is a little smaller than the eTrexes, but the antenna works better in thick woods.

The FRS (Family Radio Service) is a serious shot coming as you propose to use it.  In an emergency you can almost shout the 1/2 mile.  In addition if he is only 50 feet or so over a ridge==no signal.

We check in with radio on the hour after the first 3 morning hours (best time) when hunting in groups.
