 Ebay score, deal of the century for me. I think I'll want a plainer forend piece though.

Actually very nice piece of wood. I watched the e-bay stuff different times. Never quite found the one I wanted. Last shotgun I did was a new/old stock fajen. I've never done a butt stock or rifle from a blank but might try some day. I did do a splinter forend for SxS from a blank. Actually turned out fairly decent. Thinking of a TC contender for my first try. RD

Ebay is hit or miss, mostly miss but I keep an eye out. I bought this english blank for $125, I should be arrested for that. I still can't believe it. From a trusted seller I've bought from before to boot. I thought about sending these pics out to some dealers for a color match on a fore end piece but I think I'll just slice off a small piece and stick it in the mail. This one screams for a shotgun imo. I guess I'll keep an eye out for a donor, a sxs preferably.  Does a contender have a thru bolt? I always thought thought that'd be a difficult drilling task without a proper set up. Someday I'll make something to do it.

The contender actually has a through bolt that comes up through the grip. It's hidden under the grip cap. It has an angled post that sits in a 1" deep cup in the grip and a 3" or so long bolt that threads into it. The stock fits around the sides of the receiver for added support. RD

Rob;

So, it looks like you're looking for a shotgun now?  I'll keep my eye out for one.  Actually, I know where there's a dreiling that desperately needs some TLC.

Very nice hunk of wood. Do you try to use the same peice of wood on a stock and forend? Seems like the color and grain would match better that way.

Nice score. I will be looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.

I guess if you get a different peice for the forend, then you can look for another stock peice for your forend peice

 Wing, I think most people buy two piece blanks instead of one piece and divide. I see some dealers will give a little better figured wood for the same price as a one piece. I suppose most of those two piece blanks couldn't be cut as a one piece. However it only makes sense that most of the time one will get a better match if two pieces are cut from one piece. I did that with the Savage 99 stock I'm doing. Here is a great pic of a perfect match from one piece of wood. It's also on ebay at 150 and no bidders, ends in about ten minutes.

CB I'll be looking but it may be awhile, have to finish my 7x57 and the savage 99.

 CB, curiosity has gotten the better of me, what is the drilling? What barrels on top and what on the bottom?

Rob;

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but if I remember correctly, it's 12's on top & something like an 8 X 57R as the rifle barrel.
