May pick up a essex frame with a colt slide in 38 super. It's a
race gun but I know zip re esex frames any thoughts/

Check that frame VERY carefully for cracks.  That's usually the reason race guns are retired (sold to the unsuspecting).

Many of the local IDPA guys build on Essex frames. I have a .38 Super I built, has never given me a moments proplem, and have another Essex that I need to build on when I get the time.
