Hey guys, how would the .260 Remington do on yotes? I dont want it to rip the hide all up, because that would require sewing and such. Are there any available  bullets that i could use to take coyotes effiently (no suffering) and wouldnt rip up the hide very much? Thanks.

Might be too much gun for the pelts unless you head shoot with the lighter end of the bullets available.

I use a .17 for foxes at 4000fps.The 260 is almost a light and medium game round.

Ask blaine on the fur he'd know better then most.

NH,

The bigger bores do deliver more than needed on coyotes. All will shoot through from any angle with any bullet. You might as well use your favorite deer bullet/load and plan on sewing hides up.AW

NH. A 223 Rem is very humane with well placed bullets and very little hide damage with the VMAX I have used on em.I have yet to find an exit wound.At high velocity, there is no suffering.Maybe some nerve twitching but they die a fast death.

NH;

Any of the .22 centerfires will do the job humanely, given proper shot placement.  I like the 6mm to do the job because: A. I don't give a rodent's rosy red rectum about the hide, B. The 75gr V-Max is not affected as much by the wind and, C.  Retains more energy farther out there than the .22's.

Given your circumstances & ranges, I'd think the .223 would be a great choice.  However, I also think carpet bombing with B-52's is perfectly acceptable if you can kill enough coyotes to justify the expense.

NH,

If I wanted to use my 260 Remington on 'otes with minimum hide damage, I'd load the 160 gr at medium velocity.  I "think" you will get a .260 dia entrance hole and a .260 exit hole.  The heavier bullets will not expand as much, if at all, especially with a low velocity 2300 fps.

I don't know how many 'otes you expect to shoot with the 260 rem, but Adobe's advice to use your deer loads and sew a little sounds like the easy way!Smile

What model rifle do you have?  Or is this regarding a proposed new gun?  I have a short barreled bolt rifle that I like a lot, but it ain't no Ruger!

There is no such thing as a good dual purpose deer/fur rifle.  As Timberghost says the .223 is probably the best all around fur gun where both coyote and fox are the target.  Even the .22-250 is going to leave an ugly exit on occasion and it will blow fox to bits quite regular.

NH, try the sierra 140 gr hpbt match bullet, its not designed to expand, just punch through. I've used it on yotes and feral dogs with good results, and got good clean entrance and exit holes from a 6.5 swede.
