try the 35 grain Hornady V-MAX  .  Even at low velocity it will not go throough varmints ('otes and coons)with chest shots.

The 22 mag RF is another option if under 150 yards.

Well, a lighter bullet won't have the B/C of the 55's & such, so accommodations will have to be made.  In other words, it'll drift more in the wind, shed velocity faster & therefore drop quicker as the range gets longer.  Just a guess, you need to do the range work to be sure, but probably somewhere around 250 yards would be pushin' max effective range.

If you are shooting a 22 cal wind is such a broplem it doesn't matter.

When I hunt SD, Nd and WY for Pds i use a 243, those are windy areas.  My brother shoots a 1/2 MOA 22-250, in windy areas he is totally dis-advantages vs. the 243 with my 80 grain pill.

Calhoon double hollow point. 42 grains. I believe he also offers 38 grns. Plated, not jacketed, and with a figure 8 hollow point down in there. In a .222 they go to pieces on a 4x6 hanging plate in a grey cloud and don't swing it much. If they get inside without making a big hole on that side I'd doubt they come out the other.

At top vel.s in the .223 with 35's,is 1-12 too fast a twist with the typical varmint slug jacket thickness?

Justin A Murkin: The answer is - the Speer 52 grain hollow point flat base.

Be sure NOT to confuse this fur friendly bullet with the Speer 52 grain hollow point boat-tail!

The Speer 52 grain hollow point boat-tail is NOT fur friendly.

I have used these 52 grain Speer hollow point flat base bullets for some time now in my 220 Swifts and 22-250's and they are a flat shooting, accurate and lethal projectile that is also quite fur friendly.

Good luck with whichever you choose.

Hold into the wind

Thanks much VG!,,,I like Speers AND flat based bullets.......they allow me to add that extra 1/10000000000 of a grain of powder to wring every last FPS out of my reloads, without going over O.A.L.
