Due to an accident at the age of 7(lost his right eye) my son now shoots left handed. He is looking for a left handed bolt action in .22 WMR. Is there such a "critter"? Lawdog

Lawdog, the only one I know of is the Savage 93GL. Here's a link- http://www.savagearms.com/93gl.htm You'd think more makers would have some lefty rimfires. |

Lawdog; It's the WMR that's kinda the kicker here. Is there any over riding reason it has to be the magnum rather than the .22lr? The Savage is the only sub-$200.00 option that I know of in either the new or used market. A used Remington 581 left in .22lr SHOULD be available for under $200.00, but the reality isn't there. Don't spend too much time in the books lookin' at Anschutz either. Yes, they have produced a good number of LHB .22's, just not .22WMR's that I can see. But I suppose I coulda missed one. It may be worth finding a true Anschutz source, either collecter or importer, & asking if anything in WMR LHB ever did make it into this country. Of course, any of the Anschutz's in good condition are going to run, used, between say $300.00 & $1,200.00. Krico would also be another European manufacturer that could be a source for what you want, but the odds aren't as good as with Anschutz, & the prices are in the same area as Anschutz too. Then there's Walther, & Hammrli, & maybe a couple of other imports. Overall though Lawdog, & you probably can figure how much it hurts me to say this, the field is damn slim. 900F |

Lawdog I'm not a lefty but I do have a Ruger Model 96 in .22 mag and it don't fit the normal lever gun thinking. They are very accurite and plenty tuff,my son shoots rocks and old shotgun hulls at 100 yards with mine when he gets tired of shooting at paper. Would he even consider a lever ? |

The main reason he wants a .22 WMR is due to some of the hunting we do the .22lr is just a bit under powered. Ridding Ground Squirrels from walnut orchards where the range gets to be 125 - 150 yards at times. The orchard owners don't want to poison(at my urging) and .22 centerfires tear up the trees too much(a 40 gr. bullet really sends the bark flying and heavier bullets penetrate too deeply injuring the trees). The reason he wants a left handed bolt .22 WMR is he has tried the Ruger 10/22M of his sister's and the hot ejected shells get under his shirt at the neck leaving burn marks. Is there a difference in the ejection angle of the Ruger 96 as compared to the 10/22? Lawdog

Lawdog; It may be more of a question of; is it the difference between how the 10/22 platform handles the .22lr & the .22 mag. I have a 10/22 that gives no problem with the ejection angle & my shooting it off the left shoulder. I'd also contact www.volquartsen.com & ask if they can alter the ejection angle during a trigger/action job. I can vouch for their work with no hesitation. Then again, Volquartsen will, at some rather higher expense, provide you with the .17 HMR on their proprietory platform that resembles the 10/22, but performs at a MUCH higher level. If that should interest you, then also request that the ejection angle be altered to accomodate a left-handed shooter. 900F |

There must be a difference because his custom Ruger 10/22 doesn't put the ejected cases down his shirt collar like his older sister's 10/22M does. He is checking out the Savage M93 and see how he likes them. Lawdog

Hey Lawdog Don't know about the shirt thing since I don't shoot left handed but just checking, I shouldered the rifle left handed and cycled the lever a few times, all ejections went out and passed my left arm just blow my shoulder none touched me. And I tried slow and fast while working the lever.Hope this helps. |
