Bought a 8 pound container of Clays powder for my shotgun reloading this Spring.   I done up another 4 flats this weekend and still got 3 lbs to go.

Ran out of lead this time, last time it was primers.  Hard to beleive I can go through so much when I ain't shooting registered targets.

so that is, oh about 1500, maybe 1600 loaded shells? I've only used about 400, but that is in a little over a month. Might just have to take up loading by next spring. Unless I get into winter league. Oh boy, decisions decisions. Any one got a decent loader laying around for sale, cheap?

bkc, try to get your hands on an MEC.  In an unbelievable stroke of good luck, about a year ago, a friend of mine gave me an MEC sizemaster.  It kicks ass.  Very consistent.  Their web page is pretty cool, too.  you can still order all of the bushings and charge bars and such.

You might try eBay.  Usually a lot of shotshell reloaders on there.

thanks tex. I checked on ebay the other night and am following a few auctions. I found a few decent ones going for $10-$15. Most are 600 jrs. Must not be a very high demand fr used ones I guess. Oh well, my gain if I decide to go for one.

bk,

600 is a non-progressive, not a high volume machine.  Maybe a box, or two an hour.  With a progressive you can crank out over 4 boxes an hour is your into it.

thanks for the heads up/ A friend just stated the same and recommended at least a sizemaster. I'm not real worried about high volume as I usually only shoot 100/week at most. So either way its just a couple hours of relaxation time.

NH,
PM me and let me know what you have and what you might have to have for it.

Thanks all.

Bk, I load with both a 600 jr and a MEC Grabber. 600 JR will do 3 to 4 boxes per hour tops. But you have to get everything laid out right and develop a routine to do it.  Grabber will do about 5 shells a minute. Biggest holdup is loading the primer tray every 15-20 minutes. I keep the 600 on the bench to fix my screw ups with the Grabber. EG if it fails to drop a primer I just prime one with the 600 and put it back in the grabber index. RD

rockydog,

No offense, but that right there is a good reason, IMO, NOT to get a progressive. I'd rather be a little slow than have the machine goof and screw up on me. At the trap range, you can tell the ones that load in bulk. Every now and then there is an off sound, maybe primer only, not enough powder, etc. Not all that common, but I hear it. One at a time right, beats 100 fast, and one wrong. Plus I'd rather load at the end of the week or a couple times a month than sit down and do 2000 in the winter.

Last year my brother in law offered me a some reloading equipment. Of course I took it as I collect all reloading that I think some day I just might use. Have not really looked into reloading shot shells.

Time for me to look at it. It's a MEC model.
