"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

When we go camping I usually fish a couple streams in the Bighorns.

I catch mostly Brook trout and a few Rainbows. Too bad they aren't better eating.

Good to see you Ron.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

Here in the East  most trout streams had native brookies, 65 years ago.  Today only a few remote mountain streams, and no one stocks them.

Unfortunately, they are beautiful but dumb.  they hit anything and are easily fished out.  browns are more supplicated, and can survive fishing pressure.

Hi Ron , I'm here at least once a day.
It is good to see you.
As you know the FWP has a war against brook trout.
Trying to get cut throat back, I prefer brookies to cut's. Confused

Hey, guys - it's very good to see you all.

The beautiful Mrs. Tas and I have been heading out to the lakes in the Bear Paw Mountains south of us. Two of the lakes have great opportunities for trout while the third lake at the edge of the mountains is a reservoir with good trout, perch, walleye and northern pike opportunities. We usually prefer the trout lakes simply because the scenery is a little better, in our opinion. We never catch any monsters, but we enjoy the whole area.

Nice to see pics of that area. Are those lakes fish natural or is there a stocking program in MT to help nature along???

The upper lakes deeper into the mountains have some natural spawning of brook trout but it's mostly stocking where trout are concerned.

The lower lake (with the northern pike) was a victim of some "bucket biologist" years ago ....
