Been fishing alot the last 69 years. Back in the day The Mitchell300 was my go to, brass gears and all.
I've worn out a bunch of reels. Olde names like Pfluguer, Penn, and all US made stuff is history (Made in china); so I'm accepting that I'll be buying Asian, unfortunately. I have a Salt Striker reel now, 10 years old. It has made a million casts, caught 7 foot sharks, 100s of northern pike, dozens of muskies along with untold bass and trout. My preference is for an open face spinning reel that is ok in saltwater, but will be primarily a fresh water rig. will use 18-22 pound braided, would like at least a 150 yard capacity, and a drag that works up line strength 18#. If you have any reccommendations I'd appreciate. |

I'm also a big fan of the Mitchell 300.
After they quit making the Garcia Mitchells they came out with the 300-A. They look like the original 300 but they are not the same. Mine failed after a couple of years of me using it and I don't fish that much. Look on ebay. For around $30-$40 you can find Mitchell Garcia 300's that are in close to new condition. I have seen new in the box but they are more expensive. Wing master

No help here in finding you a new reel bear but.......Wow, a "blast from the past". I still have a Mitchell 300 from late 1960's got it when in HS. Not used in years now but still functions, well I'd think so, at leaset it did when I last used it. Has two size spools for different line wts. Must be a relic today.
