Well, my youngest son joined the school trap league this spring so we dove in head first to the shotgun world. Before this all I needed was my old Mossberg 20ga for chasing rabbits and a bird every so often. Now I'm hanging out in the gun shops handling Brownings and Beretta O/Us...just what I need!! I shoot with them during open practice, I'm not as good as my son, but it's fun. I found a great deal on an early 60s Winchester 101 and then picked up an SKB 3 barrel trap set. Doesn't make me shoot any better, but it fits nice. Now I'm cruising looking for used O/Us, new O/Us...God help me...

Sorry Hill can't help.
 Only 2 barrel I have is an old 20 gauge Stevens, that I have not shot for years. I have a 870 super express I use as a club, and a Stoeger I use for everything else.
I do reload shot shells you will too, soon.
The three of us go through about 500 shells a year but 80% are steel goose loads, Some gigantic coyote loads and some lead bird loads.
Keep us in the loop how things are going.Clap

I did that when I was 16.  And bought some used reloading machine for $40.  Wonder what trouble I would have gotten into if I had all those hundreds of hours I spent reloading?

I don't see myself getting into shotshell reloading...especially now with components so hard to find!!

I don't think the components for loading shotgun ammo are as hard to find as rifle and pistol stuff. At least around here. 

I bet that SKB is a nice shotgun. I have one that's not a trap gun just a plain over/under. I really like it.

Wing, the SKB is top notch. I'll try to get some pictures of it. It doesn't make me shoot any better, but it looks good while I miss...LOL

That Ruger Red Label looks great.  is it the early one or made after 2015?

I have never been much of a shotgun guy myself, just what I have read recently. One complaint was the original Red Labels were heavy, this one is for sure, so they did lighten up. I am not sure what they did to do that, but from the reviews I've seen quality suffered. Now, you all know how everyone thinks older is better, I can't confirm nor deny that. I do know that people either love them or hate them, nothing in the middle. It is from the shape of the stock and how they shoot. Typically they shoot much higher poi than any of the other popular makes. I can confirm this, mine shoots much higher than my 101 or SKB, at least the bottom barrel does. But, fit, finish, lockup is impeccable as was any other Red Label I handled. I did have a 50th anniversary 20ga that I never shot years ago. The jury is still out whether this one stays. I have absolutely fell in love with the Franchi Instinct L, which are owned by Beretta, at a lower price point, so we shall see...

Almost bought a field grade Red Label 20 ga.  but weight was a heavy factory against it.  OK for trap or skeet...but not an all daay carry for me.

most trap shotguns are made to shoot high as the birds are rising.  My 870 Trap gun shoots right on for me But not high enough for other shooters (my bro')

I am just learning the ways of trap and shooting high seems to be the way it is. But, if you can practice enough, it's what you get used to. My 101 its with the bird just above the bead, the SKB covers it up and the Ruger is well above the bead. I am gonna practice with the SKB more but...I just ordered a Franchi Instinct today...Wacko

Rising birds need a little upward lead built in.  Shot trap for 30 years, nice sunday afternoon at gun club.

I like the Ruger Red Label....mine is ancient and still all blue in 20ga and NOT heavy by my standards and I think it handles and shoots just fine in the grouse woods. My trap gun when I did that game was just a field grade 870 that I had tapped for changeable chokes so it could double as a turkey gun too.Smile

The 870s are real popular in the trap leagues. I'm learning alot about shotguns. Now, I want them all...Not sure what I'm gonna do with this Red Label. I bought a case from Ruger and it is a sweet setup. I think I'll hang on to it. I bought an SKB hybrid case for the 101 and it too is very very nice. The Franchi is one I have lusted for quite a while. Range report when it gets here.
