Boxing Day, in Great Britain and some Commonwealth countries, particularly Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, holiday (December 26) on which servants, tradespeople, and the poor traditionally were presented with gifts. The gifts were usually the left-overs from Christmas parties, esp food items.  I suspect today it is a day to return unwanted gifts to stores.

BUT BOXING DAY is important.  Today is the 80th anniversary of an American turning point.

On Boxing Day (December 26th  1944) during World War II, General George S. Patton's Third Army successfully relieved the besieged Allied forces at Bastogne, Belgium, effectively ending the German siege during the Battle of the Bulgemarking a crucial turning point in the battle by breaking through to the encircled American troop.

The best line from WW-2  was "NUTS".
“ The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other in opposite directions.”

Thanks for the history lesson Bear. We had a lot of brave men (kids) fighting their way across Europe.

That made me think of Max. I miss reading his posts.

Nuts? I must have missed that.
