BSB Military Roll Call

Not sure why I'm the first to post, but I am proud of what follows and think this an appropriate weekend to share it.

My Dad was the third in his family to be drafted into the Army, in 1942. His two older brothers had already received their notices and were gone. His older sister volunteered and was a WAVE during the war and was released in 1946.

He was assigned as a Gunner in an Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion, and shipped out to the South Pacific. He had a .50 cal and used it as much against Japanese aircraft as he did their coastal (boats and barges) supply-runs and US Infantry supporting fire.

He fought in Guadalcanal, Morotai, New Guinea, The Solomons and The Phillipinnes.

He was wounded from a bombing attack by the Japanese Air Force while in the Solomons and earned the Purple Heart.

His other brother was an Army Corpsman attached to an Infantry unit in Europe. He particiapted in the North African landings, Sicilian Campaign and was wounded by German infantry at Anzio and earned the Purple Heart.

His other brother was assigned to an Army Supply & Transportation Command and ended up in the South Pacific with my dad. On one strange occasion, my dad discovered they were on the same island so he commandeered a gun jeep and set off to the other side through Japanese held middle ground. He made it okay and they reunited for a couple days. My dad said he wished he had it as easy as his brother, Albert. In supply & trans all the food you could want, new equipment, in-like-Flynn he said. No wonder the GI's on the front were always short.... He was in The Solomons, New Guinea, Australia and The Phillipines.

They all got back safely and spent their lives as productive Americans who carried on the tradition of "service to your country".

No big deal, they did what they had to do and got on with their lives.

A portion of America seems to have forgotten that.

i was with the 25th infantry from jan 69 to jan 70 3/4 cav as an 11d recon  scout. my company was with Btrp. served mostly in the bo loi woods. spent some time in the hobo woods as well. prior to my service in nam i was with the 82nd airborne with the 1/17th cav. i was orginally supposed to be a tanker but when i got to my unit my c.o. said he had enough tankers and i was now a ground pounder. my mos was offically made known about 5 months later when they handed me my order change and handed me my cib.  i am a true cav person and if this old man could do it again i would want the mos. god bless american and protect our troops

1997-current USAF. On my 3rd trip to the sandbox, and sixth deployment in 10 years. When can I retire again.

hugde : maybe when you can get the weather right for a week strait ???? then you can make a fortune when you get out cause these guys around here never get it right ......
