Hunting Boots

Using Dale and Jim's and Greg'srecommendations I went to Sheel's for a pair of Kenetrac boots.  Nice looking boot, and it was about $525.  People there were great, they let me wear a pair around the store for 1/2 hour, nice sales proceedure.

Kennetrek's are made in Italy and I liked the leather quality.  Seemed to fit niceely.  But they were clumsy for me to walk in, too rigid.  And after 1/2 hour I had sever foot cramps (pain).  Upon further investigation I found they had a rigid fiberglass insole... no flex.  I passed, but lots of folks love them.

I use to buy LaCroses hunting and work boots for about 40 years.  then they changed to Made IN China and were syn, not leather.  Bought a pair for spring turkey season, the second season they leaked badly; and this was in just waalking   400 yards in fields of morning dew.  Called the company, and they said it was past one year (14 months, wore twice total  12 hours), no warranty.  I pitched the boot and permanently quit buying LaCrosse footwear.

I have three pair of hunting boots.  

 Sorel packs, great for sitting all day in duck blind or deer stand when temp is -5 to 32 oF.  not good walkerss.

  Rocky Bear Claw  waterproof and insulated (1000 gr).  A great boot, heavy, dry, and comfortable.  Good again for setting.  Heaavy.

 Rocky Pro-Hunter.  syn with goretex and 400 gr insul.  My walking around boots. light weight, stays dry.  I use them for rainy days in WY and in Pa, NY.

I find that hunting socks are as important as proper hunting boots.

For many years Dunham's dura-flex leather boot was the best, gone import.

I also use a PEET boot drier.  keeps my feet warmer on multi day hunts to dry boots every night.

Damp boots inside are COLD boots.  the drier I have is really a 10 watt bulb, dries but doesn't seem to 'dry out leather.
