I bought me a truck last week.It is an 01 Dodge flatbed duelly,4 wheel drive with a Cummins 24 valve Diesel that has been chipped.I love this thing.I haven`t put it in any bad mud(I don`t like washing it much) but it has balls.Out on the highway my mileage is pretty good too.It had 69,000 miles on it when I bought it and I had it checked out by a professional mechanic shop before I bought it.I missed my old Ford pickup and needed another truck. My Jeep just deosn`t cut it come deer season..Here it is.My first Dodge ever and I`m more than happy with it...

That rig looks so sharp you can use it to attract does.  Just park it in the middle of a field at 5pm during the rut.Wink

These newer diesels, especially the duramax and cummings are really impressive with the chips. What a neat, easy performance mod. Looks like it even came with a nice cow catcher.

Yep Rob..These chips are amazing. This thing will get up and run.It has an automatic transmission which I was kind of leary of in a duelly but I am growing to like it.I can hit the onramp to the interstate and stand on it and it `ll be running 70 before you know it.The only thing I have noticed is that the turbocharger is loud on these trucks.Loud enough you can hear it with the windows up and the radio on.Its not too bad and I guess that is the price of power. My fuel mileage is excellent with the chip.I thought it was going to be a fuel hog but it is not.I`m glad too diesel here was at $2.35 a gallon the other day.I`ve always wanted a truck like this able to pull what I want and get around in the woods when I want. The diesel engine wasn`t really a necessity but I sure do like it now that I have it..

The cow catcher is pretty cool too.It has a slot to slide in a Reese hitch on it and a winch bracket too.The Mrs. is gonna make me wait on a winch but I`ll end up with one sooner or later..It cost me $20,800 after taxes and the dealers fees.I had it privately financed so I could afford it but Im actually happy that I bought it .It took me a while to make up my mind on it and it being a Dodge and diesel  but I`m sold on em now..

Timber;

Does it have an auxillary tranny cooler on it?  If not, with the auto & the chip, you gonna NEED that before the winch.

Timberghozt.

A couple of suggestions. The heavy diesels will bury the front end in the mud quicker, so be careful. The duallies will float like ballons. So if you think you might need a winch, pick up a set of dually chains also.

When rotating the duallies, look for the slot in the wheel , if they still have them to correctly align them.

I have a 98 Dodge, Cummins, same color as yours, and really like it. No chip, but it has enough power to pull my 4 horse gooseneck up and over any high passes here in Colorado at acceptable speeds.

For the winch, before you chose a 8000lb one or 9500, be sure to pick one up. I can't lift the 9500 one, I opted for the 8000 lb one. I have the same set up. I can hook my winch to the front or back.

You probably don't need it where you live, but I use diesel fuel additive all year here. The winter starting is much easir with it.

Be sure to use diesel grade motor oil in it, like Shell Rotella T

Another tranny cooler is indeed a good idea. A tranny cooler is just a little radiator. It's not a real high price item and good insurance. It very well good have had one put one already by the previous owner but it's worth a peek.

Hye guys. Thanks for the tips.SS will do on those chains and the winch.I hadn`t thought of chains but it wouldn`t be a bad idea for sure to have them.I have saddle boxes under the bed and could stow them away nice and neat until I need them. Will do on that 8000 pound winch also. You never know which end your gonna need some help on.

Thanks CB and Rob on that cooler too.I`m going to go check that out.I had to do some some running around for the Mrs. this morning and didn`t get a chance to.Now I`m curious if maybe the previous owner did it.He seemed to have known a bit about these trucks from what I can tell and what he had done to it..If it doesn`t have one,I`ll be finding where I can get one...Talk to you fellas later..

TG,

forget the oil cooler.  ADD the accesory that the guy with the truck and bombs has at the top of the board.Wink

With an accesory like that you will never need a winch.  opps...I guess the Mrs wouldn't authorize those accesories.....get the wench.

lol.....Hey BEAR..That acessory would sure make the deer cabin a bit more enjoyable than a few cold beers and the occasional swig of Jim Beam...But alas,I think the Mrs wouldn`t like that one too much....
