Ruger, browning, now Tikka...

For Ruger's rifle check NH's latest "OMG..OMG...OMG.. I gotta have it"

Browning has the micro hunter which is really a short version or more like what I would consider a youth model.

Now Tikka's got it's T3 big bore.. All 30 Cal.. 308, 30-06, and of course WSM..

I'm thinking about getting a short action 358 built ...

For me I like either Sako (OMG expensive & heavy) or browning Abolt.. hadn't thought of the Tikka.. I've got a T3 already, darn things are smooth accurate light...

Hmm....  too bad it ain't stainless, those scabbards were off blue'n.

OK... lets take this real slow.

Subject...  "Scout class rifles"

Ruger, Browning, now Tikaa has them

Sprec-enzee!  Or are you two just playin' stupid.  Sorry I din't know i had to make my posts thought proof..

SOOO in the spirit of the aforementioned SUBJECT  #@$@#$..

Looks like the makers are building a specific market niche, a few years back it was the mountain rifle, now it's the scout.

By God! how's that for a topic.

Looks like you want to assault someone at close range. Why worry about "scout rifles?" We all know that Jeff Cooper is waaay beyond help from viagra. I built a scout rifle once. I shot it a lot before I realized I could do the same thing with an iron sighted revolver that I could, with a "scout rifle" with a pistol scope. I am not saying that a scout rifle is worthless, I am just saying that they may be needed when a guy can't handle a handgun.............Sprec-enzee???????.....................Kingpin

i think that they are a concept looking for a market. for hunting applications, they are, in my opinion, no better than anything else. for self-defense purposes, they are even more worthless. why buy one?

why buy one?

The answer to that is simple, Spot reads all the pamphlets and says that they're wonderful. If I want one, I will build it, like the last one I had. I WILL say that it is not even near my radar screen.......................Kingpin

King,

NH has one in his sights right now (his post on "a sure thing")

I does seem however that barrels keep geeting shorter as folks move to lighter rifles.

Hmm....  lets compare notes

Sako finnlight has a 20" barrel

Tikka Big bore = 19" barrel

Browning BLR = 18.5" barrel

Ruger Frontier = 16.5" barrel  (wholly Goose Grease!)

Next thing ya know Remington will come out with a tuna can on a stick.

First thing is, that you need to learn the law. 16" is the shortest rifle barrel allowable by law, so just what are you trying to say? So is it safe to assume that you are looking for your football?..............Kingpin

How could anybody take a tuna can on a stick serious.

16" huh... good thing I'm legal...

I've been wondering why Bushmaster advertises 14.5" with a 1.5" flash supressor to be a legal 16"... Hell all this time I thought they were joking... what do ya know.

In all honesty, a 16" barrel is only one parameter. The other is, 26" in overall length. A shotgun barrel must be 18" minimun and 26" overall length.

How could anybody take a tuna can on a stick serious.

Coming from you spot, one has to take it seriously, after all, you hold the concession on dumb questions, under the premise that you are thought provoking, while nothing could be further from the truth........................Kingpin

I don't care for the scout rifle concept.  Prefer the scope where it should be, and a decent length barrel.  I do like scout cookies.
Somebody better call the Secret Service. Let 'em know there's an illegal alien in the White House...and it ain't the cook!!

I like 20-21 inch barrels on a brush gun.

and I don't like the scope mounted forward at all.

I was just surprised that Ruger made a 16.5" barrel..

Then why the "thought provoking" attempt? Why bother commenting? Sounds like a lot of shit to me...................Kingpin

Not to be rude but the fishing / trolling section is at the bottom of the board.

is there a hope for civility in this thread?
Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.
