My pooch likes to sleep with his eyes open and rolled back in his head. He also dreams a lot, and while he is dreaming his tail flops around and he whimpers like a zebra. Just too funny. And if you look closely cb900, you can see my carpet.

I can't really post it, but I also have a revealing pic of him sleeping with my wife...........

Why do you ask, did the psycoticness wear off?

I thought of training him, but I don't really hunt on water right now. Maybe some day, but not with him. He's more a part of the family then he should be. A big baby really, very playfull and loveable. He likes to sleep on the bed sometimes, and I usually don't mind. Sometimes he works his way up between us and then about three in the morning he has one of his whimper dreams. That's something pretty weird to wake up to!

We got him from a woman that raises Golden Retrievers. Her neighbors pure bred German Shorthair got a hold of one of her Pure Goldens, and voila! He's got some unique quirks from both. When he gets on a scent trail his ears shut off though. He flushed a family of turkeys out of the alfalfa and got a pair of chicks. Wasn't real pleased, but oh well.

Many dog's stop listening when their on a scent trail.  I know it sounds rough but get a prong'ed choke collar (sometimes called a pinching choke collar) with a 20-30 ft leash.  If he's big already, you can "board," train him.  Put him on a board 3x4 ft. and tell him to whoa, (or what ever word you want but be consistant) keep the collar tight but not so it grab's him.  When he stands still tell him good boy, and when he's doing that it's time to progress.  With the collar on, saw whoa, keep sayin it, and then throw a ball or something while repeating whoa.  He's a lab so he's gonna tear off, when he does hit him hard by pullin his front legs up off the ground.  usually takes only a couple of times and they stop doin it quick.  Some folks put their hand just over their head before they throw the ball, but that's fer duck dog's who sit next to them on the left side.  Once they stay put tell them good dog, and move you hand from just in front of their face in the direction the ball went like your throwing it, and say go, get it, fetch (whatever).

When you can get him to stay next to you till you release him, then you move to the field, use the lease with the pincher in the field and give him a whoa, if he doesn't hit him hard pull back, hell it's a lab walk backwards.  Keep it up till he takes it as a habbit.  If the board work did the job he'll stop dead when you say whoa.  Make sure you release him with an OK.

Just one other thing, you could use a shocker to do it, but personally I don't like them.  I only use them when I take them off the pincher, if I'm still havin problems.  Haven't had to use one so long I got rid of mine.

P.S. - I went into instruction mode so's others could benifit, don't mean to be lecturin but some of these lesson's could save a huntin dog's life.  If ya know what I mean.

I've got some basic stuff done with him. He knows stay and go. But if I tell him to stay and then throw something, he seems to be so happy that he stayed that he forgets to go. 1/2 the time he'll go get it, the other 1/2 he just hops up and gets happy. He's about 1 1/2 years but still acts like a newborn. I did get a shock collar when we came out here. He took off all the time and wouldn't listen at all, just ran. I used it just enough to get him to stay within a few hundred yards of the house. He still wonders of to who knows where now and then, but he's usually back within an hour. He's good if you watch him though. The new problem is the fields are growing up pretty tall and I think he gets lost! I can stand up on our deck and see the grass moving where he is, but when you yell for him he zig zags all over the place and you have to keep yelling so he can follow your voice. He stays in the house all day and when somebody gets home he will run around and go nuts until he finds something to bring you. He will NOT great you with an empty mouth! Oh, well, that's enough rambling for now. Can you tell I really love my pup?

That sounds like one of the funniest dogs ever! I wish my dog did that. He just sits iin front of a fan or an air conditioner all day and then when you walk up to the door he runs over and sits in front of the door with his ears folded back. He is one of the funniest looking dogs ever. By the way, he is a beagle named Titanic. Can you figure out why he was named that?

Yeah, socks are his favorite. He will also go around until his mouth is full, one time I think he had three socks, a plastic bag, a couple of my daughts small toys, a small hirbrush, and probably more! Name is Shadow, can you geuss why? I could name a few other things he hes brought at one time or another, but then again, we would probably have to step up to a nc-17 rating again......

Hey NH, can you post a pic.

Maybe we should start a post to get everyone to show off their pooch(es).

NH,

I think I should pass on the title of demon dog to you. Mine looks somewhat sane when he is awake at least.

Spot,

To funny! There is definately some sort of mastermind plot getting spun on the gears inside that pups head! I think maybe he's plotting a way to slip that coller onto his master. I could just see him hopping around yipping "how do you like it, huh spike? huh, huh, do ya, do ya? ZZZAAAAAPPPPPPP!!

No need to pick on my beagle. I had a weird flash mode set and i got the picture when he was blinking. My camera doesnt take good pictures. I will try and get a better one when he is looking happier.

NH,

Wasn't really pickin'on Titanic. Just playing. By the way, why did you name him Titanic? Looks very normal in this pic. He looks like he lost weight from picture to picture. Maybe just sitting up more.

My daughter saw the pics and wanted me to take one of her and Shadow to post, so here it is.

NH,

Looks like he lost some weight since that last picture, or at least his skin fits tigher (one of the two).  You hunt rabbit's with that dog?

BK,

I'm sorry, but that thing looks like somethin you buy from spencers around holloween in the mall.  What kinda battries does it take to light up them eyeballs? (spookey lookin)  Cute kid though, is thet dog a lab or a marma duke?  Kinda reminds me of thet monster dog in Ghostbusters.

Yeah, being a cheapo camera doesn't help. Rather poor lighting inside, then the flash makes it worse.

She saw the other pictures and just had to have hers taken and I was too lazy to walk outside. The way he is stretched to the side does have a GB look to it!
