It's that time of year,LING, there starting to get active, we picked some up last week. We fished till around 1:00 am, Nothing big yet but we'll keep working on it!

I have heard people refer to different fish as "Ling". Are you fishing fresh or salt water? If this is the freshwater ling your speaking of, I have some questions.

Ok, That's what I was thinking but I have also heard of a saltwater "Ling Cod" so I didn't know for sure. I have just been completely confused with the saltwater/freshwater part. Some of the Alaskan natives refer to Burbot as Ling cod but none of this really matters. What I want to know is how to catch um. I got put on the spot once and we had to go try and get one.. and we did, it's the one in the photo below. That's also the only one I ever took part in catching. Josh and I were at Byers Lake up beside Denali park in Alaska and there was a sign that said there was Burbot in the lake.. Well he felt as if I should know just what to do if we were to go after them but I didn't know nuttin.. and still don't. Since he put me on the spot in the situation I hooked a chunk of a T-bone steak on a line and jumped in my kayak and paddled it way out in the lake dropped it in and left for a few hours. When we returned, what you see in the photo was the results. I got lucky.. I know there must be another way to do this. Hell I'd rather eat the steak than the fish anyway.. So all I want to know is everything......or what your willing to share about fishing for these Ling/Burbot/Cod fish anyways.

Yes that is a LING small but it's a start.Once you tie in to a 10 lb'er you'll be hooked for life!!!!!I only got one ten'er in 30 years but keep trying." BURBOT" is what you would look up.

That was a small one, too small to be legal. Even then, it was out of season so it had to go back no matter what.

	We've been out twice sense my last post and the ling are MOVING AROUND!! We did great and some were good size (28") nice. Now if we can ever get the wind to lay down so we could fish a little more!!

	i've only been fishing for them once, but was unsuccessful. what we used then were nightcrawlers and minnows. i imagine any similar bait that you would use for northerns or walleyes would work. D4570 would be the best one to answer this. we'll probably hear from him! i think the references to cod come from the fact that they are related to cod much the same as perch are related to walleye. i also remember reading tht they are excellent eating.

	It's been a looong time since I visited here, but thought I'd add a picture of the saltwater version... and the teeth... Lot's of folks would trade halibut for Ling Cod, as there very good eating, even if ugly.

	NICE We were in AK awhile back fishing by Suiack island, and were getting Ling cod like that (50- 60 lbs)

	In warm salt water, the cobia/ling/cabio/black bonita/lemonfish/crabeater/black salmon[ all the same fish] is caught. It is not a cod, I believe a lingcod is a cod family member, the burbot and in some places, the tomcod are found in fresh water Don
